
2025 Duke True Spotlight: Juliette Schulten

Duke field hockey head coach Pam Bustin and the program are excited to welcome a total of eight additions to the Blue Devil program in 2025. The Blue Devils will profile each of the newest Duke True members over the next two weeks. Joining the Duke family from Rotterdam, The Netherlands is Juliette Schulten.
Hailing from Connecticut, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania and England and The Netherlands, this group features a diverse set of talents and field hockey experiences. While varying in position, one thing is for sure, Duke field hockey got better on and off the turf with the addition of this group of outstanding young players.
“Duke True is excited Juliette Schulten is joining the incoming class of 2025! Juliette is from the Netherlands but has been playing and going to school at Scarborough College in England. After a gap year, she is ready to bring her studies and hockey to the U.S. and Duke is the perfect fit! Juliette will contribute her talents to the Duke backfield. Her experience as a defender and backfield attacker will undoubtedly provide stability as well as variation to our game. Learning More About Juliette
Juliette, hailing from Rotterdam, was a standout for HC Rotterdam before making the move to England at Scarborough College where she excelled for the First XI U18 squad. With Juliette helping to anchor the backfield, HC Rotterdam captured numerous Dutch National Field Hockey titles both indoor and outdoor. She captained the U14 squad to the semifinals outdoors and to indoor title and followed that the next year with an outdoor title with the U16 squad. In her second season with the U16 team and final with HC Rotterdam, Juliette was selected as a captain as they advanced to the quarterfinals.
In her first season with Scarborough College, Juliette was instrumental in the team finishing as runners-up in the U18 Tier 2 division outdoors and fifth at indoor nationals. This past year she captained the U18 squad to the quarterfinals of Tier 1 and to the U19 ISHC Plate finals. During her time in England, Juliette also played hockey for York HC and Leeds HC as a member of the First XI squads.
At Scarborough, she recently was named the Archer Sportswoman of the Year and was the founder of an official TEDx event held at the college. Selected out of 200 candidates, Juliette is a Model European Parliament National Finalist as a distinguished top debater.
Athletics runs in the Schulten family as her father, Alcuin Schulten was a decorated figure skater, competing for The Netherlands at the 1990 and 1992 European Championships and the 1990 World Championships. He also attended the European Championships in the pairs competition with his sister, Jeltje Schulten.
