DURHAM, N.C.--The fifth-seeded Duke University women's soccer team will look to win its first ever ACC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship when it will take on third-seeded North Carolina on Sunday, November 4 at 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.
Duke is coming off a dramatic victory on Friday night in the seminfinals when it upset top-seeded Clemson 1-0. Sophomore Carly Fuller (Portland, Ore.) netted the game-winning goal in the 66th minute as she helped lead the Blue Devils to their fourth ACC Championship game appearance, their first since 1994.
North Carolina, the defending ACC and NCAA Champions, advanced to the championship game for the 13th year in a row with a 3-0 victory over seventh-seeded Florida State. The Tar Heels, who have won the last 11 titles, have now won 30 consecutive ACC Tournament games dating back to 1989.
The match-up will be the second meeting of the year in women's soccer between Duke and North Carolina in the inaugural Carlyle Cup, a year long series between the two schools in all sports sponsored by Carlyle & Co., a Greensboro-based jeweler. If Duke beats UNC on Sunday, it will split the points for the season series in women's soccer. If UNC defeats Duke, it will win the season series and keep the three points. North Carolina leads the Carlyle Cup competition 12-1 heading into tomorrow's matchup.
