Four Blue Devils Named to Southeast Region Squad

DURHAM, N.C.---Four members of the Duke University women's soccer team have been named to the 2000 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Southeast Region team announced on Tuesday, December 6.

Sophomore midfielder Carly Fuller (Portland, Ore.) received first-team honors after tieing for the team lead in scoring with eight goals and five assists for 21 points. Fuller started all 23 games and led the Blue Devils with four game-winning goals. Fuller was also a second team All-ACC pick and a member of Soccer America's Team of the Week on Sept. 19.

Making the second team for Duke was freshman goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir (Kopavogur, Iceland), senior midfielder Kim Daws (Northridge, Calif.), and junior forward Sarah Pickens (Greensboro, N.C.). Helgadottir appeared in 18 games for the Blue Devils in the nets while accumulating a 1.26 goals against average and a 8-5-1 won/loss record. Helgadottir was also a second team All-ACC selection and an ACC All-Tournament selection.

Daws, a second team All-ACC selection, started all 23 games for the Blue Devils in 2000 scoring two goals and two assists for six points. Daws appeared in 85 games in her career, which ranks her ninth on the all-time list. She scored six goals and 12 assists for 24 points in her career. Her 12 assists rank eighth on the all-time Duke list.

Pickens, a first team All-ACC selection, led the Blue Devils in goals scored (9) and was tied for the lead in points (21). Pickens netted four game-winning goals in 2000, which was tied for the team lead.

The Duke University women's soccer team finished the season with a 14-8-1 overall record and lost to Clemson University 2-1 in overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
