DURHAM, NC - Sophomore midfielder Casey McCluskey scored two goals to lead Duke University past 20th-ranked N.C. State, 3-0, in ACC women's soccer action at a rain-soaked Koskinen Stadium in Durham on Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils improved to 6-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play while the Wolfpack falls to 8-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.
McCluskey put Duke ahead with an unassisted goal at the 39:03 mark of the first half.  She added her second unassisted goal of the night at the 50:48 mark of the second half on a free kick.  Freshman Carolyn Riggs tallied her team-leading  eighth goal of the year on an assist from freshman Heidi Hollenbeck to round out the night's scoring.
Duke outshot N.C. State on the night, 18-4.
Junior goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir recorded her first shutout of the season, finishing the night with four saves.  The Kopavogur, Iceland native now has 10.5 career shutouts - fifth most in Duke history.  N.C. State's Gretchen Lear was credited with four saves.
Duke travels to meet Charlotte on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. while N.C. State hosts Florida State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
