Blue Devils Travel To ACC Championship In Cary, N.C...
Duke (12-5-1, 4-3) heads to Cary, N.C. on Wednesday for the 16th annual ACC Women's Soccer Championship, which will be held at the SAS Soccer Complex on Nov., 5, 7 and 9th. The Blue Devils are seeded fourth and will take on No. 5 seed Virginia (at 8:00 p.m. in the first round.
Other first round contests include No. 2 Florida State vs. No. 7 Wake Forest at 12:00 p.m., No. 3 Clemson vs. No. 6 Maryland at 2:30 p.m. and No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 8 N.C. State at 5:30 p.m. The winner of the Duke contest will face the winner of the UNC/N.C. State matchup on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Series...
Duke tied the overall series at 8-8-5 with its 1-0 victory on Oct. 18 in Durham, but Virginia has won six out of the last 10 meetings with the Blue Devils.
In The ACC Tournament...
Duke owns an all-time record of 8-15-2 in the ACC Tournament over the 15 years. For the fourth straight year, the Blue Devils will face Virginia in the first round of the tournament. In 2000, Duke won 0-0 advancing 4-3 on penalty kicks; in 2001 lost 2-1 in overtime; and in 2002 won 1-0. The lower seed has won two of the past three contests.

Virginia enters the ACC Championship losing three out of its last four contests to Duke (1-0), North Carolina (3-1) and Clemson (2-1), while picking up a 6-0 victory over Liberty.
Kelly Hammond leads the squad in scoring with 12 goals and five assists and in goal Anne Abernethy has started every contest in goal for the Cavaliers with a 0.87 goals against average.
Shutout Squad...
After registering its second straight shutout on Friday, the Blue Devils now have shutout their opponents eight different times this season.
Duke has recorded three shutouts over the past four contests.
A Look Back At Last Year...
During the regular season at Virginia, the Cavaliers defeated the Blue Devils, 2-0 and held Duke to a season-low six shots.
Virginia's Alyssa Benitez scored the first goal of the game at the 31:38 mark as Noelle Keselica assisted with a throw in near the post. The second goal of the match came with less than five minutes left in the contest (85:02). On a breakaway, Julie Napolitano passed the ball to Darci Borski for the final goal of the game.
Then, in the ACC Tournament Duke was able to get revenge on the Cavaliers as the Blue Devils won 1-0 to advance to the semifinals.
Sophomore Lauren Simel scored the only goal of the match in the first half and junior goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir made seven saves in the victory.
Freshman midfielder Heidi Hollenbeck crossed to Simel in the 26th minute. Simel took the pass and shot into the lower right corner to give Duke the 1-0 lead it wouldn't relinquish. Virginia had several chances to tie the game, but were unable to get the ball past Helgadottir.
Like the first match, Virginia outshot the Blue Devils 20-6.
The Seibert-Ford Connection...
So far on the season, Kate Seibert has scored six goals, which ranks tied second on the Duke squad. Of those six goals, sophomore defender Carolyn Ford has assisted on five of them.
Harris Returns...
Senior defender Kelly Harris has played in Duke's last two contests after missing the first 16 matches with a leg injury. The Dallas, Texas product started against Maryland for senior night for her first start of the season. A starter on the defensive end her first three years at Duke before being sidelined this season, Harris has played in 60 career games, while starting 50 of those contests.
Oxenham Moves Up Career Assist List...
With her assist against Gardner-Webb on Oct. 27, senior Gwendolyn Oxenham moved into tied for fifth on Duke's all-time assist list with 16. So far on the season, she leads the Blue Devils with eight assists. She needs two more to move into tied for fourth.
A Winning Affair...
Duke now owns 12 victories on the season, which is a new season-high for Head Coach Robbie Church at Duke. In the two previous seasons, he led Duke to eight victories in 2001 and nine victories in 2002.
Scoring Slump In ACC Play...
In seven ACC contests, Duke scored just five goals and was shutout in three games, but finished with a 4-3 record. The Blue Devils have been outscored 8-5 in ACC contests.
