DURHAM, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) released the 2004 All-ACC women's soccer teams on Monday with Duke senior Casey McCluskey headlining the list earning Offensive Player of the Year and first team accolades. The Blue Devils also had sophomore Rebecca Moros earning second team honors as well as two rookies on the All-Freshman team. The teams are decided on a vote by the 10 league head coaches.
"Obviously we are very excited about Casey earning ACC Offensive Player of the Year," said Duke Head Coach Robbie Church. "She is well-deserving of the award as from day one she has been a major part of our offense."
McCluskey, a native of Springfield, Va., has posted one of the best offensive seasons in Duke history in her final year with the Blue Devils; collecting 15 goals and five assists for 35 points. Since moving to the forward position in the fifth match of the season, McCluskey has scored 14 of her 15 goals and has posted seven of her eight game-winning goals. Her 15 goals and 35 points each rank second on the Duke single-season record charts. In the career record book, McCluskey also ranks second with 39 goals and 90 points.
In the ACC stats, McCluskey leads the league in game-winning goals (8), while ranking second in goals (15) and points (35). The honor for McCluskey marks the fourth straight year she has been named first team All-ACC. She becomes only the 15th ACC player since 1987 and second Duke player to earn the honor in four straight years.
Moros, a product of Larchmont, N.Y., is having a breakout season in 2004 as she has registered 11 assists and four goals for 19 points. Her 11 assists ranks tied for second in the ACC and is tied for second on the Duke single-season record charts. Moros tied an ACC-record on Oct. 17 as the midfielder amassed four assists leading the Blue Devils to a 9-3 victory.
On the All-ACC Freshman team, Allison Lipsher and Lorraine Quinn were each named to the 12-member squad. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Lipsher has started 14 of 18 contests for the Blue Devils registering six shutouts, seven victories and a 1.11 goals against average. Her six shutouts ranks third in the ACC and during the season Lipsher posted a Duke record 516.34 straight minutes without allowing a goal. Quinn, from Farmingdale, N.Y., has been solid in the midfield for Duke this season starting all 18 contests and notching three goals and four assists for 10 points. She posted the game-winning goal in the second match of the season against Elon.
Duke (12-6, 5-4), seeded fourth in the ACC Tournament, will next take on fifth-seeded Wake Forest (10-5-1, 4-4-1) on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The match will be played at SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
