Duke has advanced to the second round of the NCAA College Cup in each of its last eight appearances and did so on Friday with a 4-1 penalty kick victory over 21st-ranked South Carolina. The match was tied, 1-1, after 110 minutes of play before penalty kicks started. Georgia advanced to the second round with a 6-1 win over Alabama A&M. The six goals scored was an NCAA Tournament record for the Bulldogs.
The Blue Devils (8-5-7) and Bulldogs (18-3-2) will meet on Sunday with the winner advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16, which will be played on Nov. 23, 24 or 25 at a site to be determined. Duke and Georgia have met a total of three times in the overall series with the Bulldogs leading 2-1. The last time the two teams met was in 2004 as Duke cruised to a 3-0 win during the Duke adidas Classic. The victory was the year before Patrick Baker took over the reigns at Georgia as the head coach.
Coming off registering her fourth goal of the season against South Carolina on Friday, junior Lorraine Quinn is now one of five Blue Devils who have scored four or more goals this season. ? With Duke scoring first on Friday against South Carolina, it broke a seven-match streak of a Blue Devil opponent scoring first and Duke having to come from behind.
? Freshman Maeghan FitzGerald nailed the clinching penalty kick on Friday against the Gamecocks. It was the first time FitzGerald has scored a goal all season as she had not taken a shot all year.
? With Duke registering so many ties this season, Head Coach Robbie Church had the team start practicing penalty kicks much earlier in the season than normal. The practice helped on Friday against South Carolina.
? The Duke goal against South Carolina by Lorraine Quinn broke a scoreless streak in NCAA Tournament action that spanned 3:22.15. Prior to Quinn's tally, the last time Duke had put the ball in the net was against Yale in the 2005 NCAA Tournament off the foot by Darby Kroyer.
? On the way to the South Carolina match on Friday, the Duke bus got lost and the team did not arrive at the field until there was only 35 minutes prior to the match starting. Due to the Georgia football game this weekend, the Blue Devils are having to stay almost an hour away from Athens, Ga. The trip to the field on Friday took them two hours.
? The Blue Devils have posted a 1-2-3 overall record in true road matches this season.
? Duke has registered seven ties this season which matches the single season record set in 2002.
? Senior Allison Lipsher has registered 31 career shutouts and is three away from tying the Duke career mark held by Melissa Carr, who played from 1992-95. Lipsher is also four shutouts shy of matching the ACC career mark held by Aly Winget (35) of UNC.
? Sophomore Elisabeth Redmond has totaled 11 assists on the season, which is tied for second on the all-time single season chart at Duke. Redmond has also notched a team-best three game-winning goals, while also posting eight assists on goals that have tied the match or goals that were game-winning.

Junior Lorraine Quinn and sophomore Elisabeth Redmond were named to the All-ACC first and second teams, respectively, while Rebecca Allen was selected to the All-Freshman team by a vote of the league head coaches.
? Sophomore KayAnne Gummersall continues to be hobbled with an ankle injury that occurred earlier this season. Duke's leading goal scorer from a year ago with seven goals has yet to score this season and has totaled one assist. She missed three matches in October but has played the last five contests. She is still not 100 percent healthy and will not be until after the season is over.
