DURHAM, N.C.? Soccer Buzz has released its All-America and All-Region teams with Blue Devil junior Lorraine Quinn earning fourth team All-America accolades, while five Duke players received All-Region honors.
Those Blue Devils earning All-Region accolades were Quinn (first team), sophomore Elisabeth Redmond (second team), senior Allison Lipsher (third team), freshman Rebecca Allen (All-Freshman) and freshman Gretchen Miller (All-Freshman).
Quinn, who is from Farmingdale, N.Y., established herself as one of the top midfielders in the nation in 2007 as she totaled four goals, three assists and 11 points in 23 games started. On the year, Quinn posted goals against Elon, Boston College, Maryland and South Carolina, while collecting assists versus Yale, Elon and North Carolina. In three seasons at Duke, Quinn has produced eight goals, 12 assists and 28 points.
The 5-2 Quinn is one of the most talented players in the game today with excellent foot skills. She also earned Soccer America MVP, NSCAA/adidas All-Region honors prior to the Christmas holiday, while gathering first team All-ACC accolades in November. Her All-America honor is the first in her career.
A product of Morristown, N.J., Redmond led the Blue Devils with eight goals, 12 assists and four game-winning goals. Her 12 assists was the second-most in a single season at Duke. Redmond also totaled eight assists on goals that tied the match or was the game-winner. She ranked 16th nationally with a 0.52 assist per game average, while in the ACC stats she was sixth in points (1.22), tied for seventh in goals (0.35), second in assists (0.52) and tied for sixth in game-winning goals (4).
Lipsher, who finished her career with 33 shutouts in goal for the Blue Devils, had a stellar season in 2007 as she totaled a 0.84 goals-against average to go along with seven shutouts and 91 saves. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Lipsher's 33 shutouts she concluded her career with ranked second on Duke's all-time list and tied for fourth on the ACC charts.
In 2007, Lipsher ranked 66th nationally with a 0.844 goals-against average and 78th in save percentage (0.82). In the ACC stats, she was fifth in goals-against average (0.84), fifth in save percentage (0.82), fourth in shutouts (7) and second in saves (91).
Allen and Miller were named to the All-Freshman teams after having a very big impact on the Blue Devil success in 2007. Allen, who is from Jenks, Okla., totaled five goals, two assists and 12 points as she started eight of 23 matches on the year. She posted two game-winning goals at Miami and at N.C. State, while also totaling goals against Elon, Maryland and another against Miami. Miller, a product of Fairport, N.Y., started all 23 matches and played both on the offensive and defensive ends for the Blue Devils. She totaled her only goal of the season against Elon.
