Hwang recorded first-place finishes in both the 50 free (19.84) and the 100 free (44.66). His 19.84 clocking in the 50 free represents the nation's top performance in the event so far during the 2011-12 season, as well as an NCAA 'B' cut time. Hwang is also the only swimmer to have broken the 20-second barrier in the 50 free this year. In addition, his mark of 44.66 in the 100 free currently ranks as the eighth-best performance nationally.
In the win over the Terrapins, Hwang was also a key member of the Blue Devils' relay squads. The Cerritos, Calif., native anchored the winning 200 medley relay and led off the first-place 200 free relay with a 20.35 split.
For his performance, Hwang was also named the ACC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week.
