Gambucci improved to 7-1 for the year with a pair of victories at the Northwestern Duals. With Duke trailing 6-0 against No. 13 Northwestern, Gambucci pinned John Coukos with three seconds left in the first period to record his fourth first-period pin of the year and even the score for the Blue Devils against the Wildcats.
In his second bout of the evening, the Mansfield, Ohio native needed just 1:19 to pin Brandon Ling of Stevens Tech. His six points helped lead the Blue Devils to the 33-15 victory over the Ducks.
Gambucci is 7-1 overall for the year with five of his wins coming from first-period falls. After missing the first two tournaments of the season, the 133-pounder placed third at the Keystone Classic and captured two dual victories.
The Blue Devils are 1-1 in duals after falling to No. 13 Northwestern and beating Stevens Tech. Duke closes the calendar year Dec. 8 at Eastern Michigan. The Blue Devils will wrestle Eastern Michigan and Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich.
