DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's soccer team saw its season come to a close Friday evening as the Blue Devils dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 2 Florida State at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Blue Devils dropped to 8-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 in ACC action, while Florida State moved to 16-1-1, 9-0-1 and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ACC Championship.
Duke needed a win or tie to be eligible for the postseason, but the Blue Devils couldn't get any offense going on the night as they were limited to only three shots over 90 minutes of action. It will snap an 11-year streak of advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the Blue Devils.
Florida State controlled the match from the beginning and outshot Duke, 11-1, in the first half. The Seminoles were able to get on the board at the 35:27 mark as Marta Bakowska‐Mathews connected on a header from six yards out. Blue Devil freshman
Ashton Miller attempted Duke's lone first half shot in the 32nd minute that was blocked.
Duke was able to take two second half shots in the final 15 minutes of play off the head of junior defender
Kara Wilson. One was saved and one went wide. Dagny Brynjarsdottir of FSU added a goal in the 85th minute as the Blue Devils were trying to push forward and even the match.
In goal, Duke used a combination of redshirt junior
Ali Kershner and freshman
EJ Proctor. Both allowed one goal each and combined for five saves.
Duke finished the season with 22 goals scored, which matched the Blue Devil record low for a season (1998).
The Blue Devils will graduate
Kelly Cobb,
Audrey Gibson,
Katie Trees,
Tabria Williford,
Gilda Doria,
Katy Colas,

Anastasia Hunt. Kershner will have one year of eligibility remaining, but will be graduating in May.
The future remains very bright for Duke as the Blue Devils return five of its top six scorer's and all but two starters, while welcoming one of the top recruiting classes in the nation in 2015 under head coach
Robbie Church.
