DURHAM, N.C. – The final TopDrawerSoccer.com individual player rankings for the 2015 campaign have been released with three Blue Devils listed among the top 11 players in the upperclassmen and freshman listings. Junior
Christina Gibbons was No. 11 in the upperclassmen rankings, while
Taylor Racioppi and
Kayla McCoy were tabbed No. 5 and No. 11, respectively, in the freshmen rankings.
In the upperclassmen listings, Gibbons was the fifth-highest ACC player ranked. Gibbons, who hails from Raleigh, N.C., helped guide the Blue Devil defense to 14 shutouts and just their third NCAA College Cup appearance. She also made her mark on the offensive side collecting three goals, five assists and 11 points in 2015.
A First Team All-ACC, Second Team All-America and NSCAA All-Region selection, Gibbons and the Duke defense allowed only five goals over its final 13 matches, including the second most shutouts in school history with 14. The defender tallied two goals and one assist in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
Racioppi was the third-highest ACC freshman in the rankings, while McCoy was the fifth.
Coming in as a rookie, Racioppi made an immediate impact for the Blue Devils. She notched a team-high 20 points to go along with seven goals and six assists, while also registering a team-best 86 shots. Her six assists ranked tied sixth and her seven goals was tied 13th on the Duke freshman record books. The All-ACC Freshman selection from Ocean Township, N.J., led the squad with four game-winning goals.
McCoy, who hails from Lincolnwood, Ill., led Duke with eight goals on the season, including the biggest of her career in the NCAA College Cup against Florida State. The 5-7 forward tallied the game-winning goal late in the first half to push the Blue Devils into the NCAA Championship. McCoy's eight goals ranked tied eighth on the Duke freshman list. She added three game-winning goals on the season along with two assists.
Duke is coming off advancing to the NCAA College Cup title match for the third time in school history, before falling to Penn State, 1-0. The Blue Devils collected a 14-6-5 overall record, while knocking off two No. 1 seeds and a No. 2 seed on their way to the championship.
