DURHAM, N.C. – It will be familiar territory for the No. 4 seed Duke Blue Devils (15-3-2) when they open the second weekend of play in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, as they head to Washington, D.C., to take on the Lipscomb Bison (15-4-2) in second round action on Friday.
Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. ET and will be broadcast by Georgetown at www.GUHoyas.com. Due to inclement weather in the Georgetown area, both matches Friday will be moved to the George Washington-Mt. Vernon Athletic Complex. This will be Duke's second trip to the nation's capital this year, with the other being a scoreless draw against Georgetown in the second weekend of the regular season.
The Blue Devils punched their ticket to the second round after a 1-0 victory against Rutgers last Friday at Koskinen Stadium. It was a scoreless battle until the 78th minute, when Ella Stevens sent a free kick into the box, where Kayla McCoy headed the ball home for her team-leading 11th goal of the season. The goal propelled Duke to its eight-straight advancement out of the opening round of play in the NCAA Tournament.
McCoy, an All-ACC First Team selection, leads Duke with her 11 scores and 29 points, both which stand second in the ACC. Stevens' assist in Friday's win was her 11th of the year, a team high. That total is tied for second in the conference and is eighth in the nation. Brooke Heinsohn recorded her ninth solo shutout of the season in the win, tying her for second in the conference in clean sheets.
If the Blue Devils are victorious on Friday, they will face the winner of No. 1 Georgetown and Washington State in the NCAA Round of 16. That match is slated for 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 18 at Shaw Field.

Thanks to Kayla McCoy's score in the 78th minute off a free kick from Ella Stevens, the No. 4 seed Duke Blue Devils took down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 1-0, to advance to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Sydney Simmons drew a yellow card that set up Stevens' service. The junior's free kick earned her assist No. 11 on the year, which leads the team. The goal was McCoy's team-high 11th of the season.
The win extended Duke's success in the opening round of NCAA play. The Blue Devils are 7-0-1 in their last eight NCAA openers, with their last loss coming in 2009 to Rutgers in Columbia, S.C. The victory also moved Duke's undefeated streak at home in NCAA play to 20-straight matches.

This year marks the first time since the 2015 season that Duke will play on the road in the NCAA Second/Third Rounds. That year, the Blue Devils defeated Florida Gulf Coast and No. 2 Florida in Gainesville, Fla., to advance on to the NCAA Quarterfinals and eventually to the College Cup National Championship match.
Shining Bright in Postseason Play…
Several Blue Devils have seen tremendous success in the NCAA Tournament throughout their careers at Duke and that has placed them amongst the best in DWS history when it comes to performing on the sport's biggest stage. Ella Stevens is second in DWS history with seven assists, one behind the program record held by Mollie Pathman. She's also tied for sixth with 13 points and tied for 10th with three goals. Stevens now has four all-conference honors in her three seasons, while Racioppi reeled in the third conference award of her career.
Rounding out Duke's All-ACC honorees are rookies Sydney Simmons and Delaney Graham, who were named ACC All-Freshman Team. It's the eighth time in program history that the Blue Devils have received multiple All-Freshman Team selections in one season and the first since McCoy and Racioppi did so in 2015.
2018 Senior Class Continues to Dominate…
The 2018 Duke women's soccer senior class continues to do what it's done best for four years: win. Duke's victory against Rutgers moved the class' win total to 67. The squad is the winningest senior class in program history, while last year's class is second with 60 victories.
In their four years, the DWS seniors of Chelsea Burns, Kayla McCoy, Kat McDonald and Taylor Racioppi have made two trips to the NCAA College Cup, including a National Championship game appearance in 2015, and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2016. The group of four also captured the 2017 ACC Regular Season Championship and has picked up at least one win against every ACC program.
McCoy Keeps the Good Times Rolling…
There was no doubt that senior Kayla McCoy would be the Blue Devils' offensive catalyst in 2018 and she hasn't disappointed, especially as Duke heads into postseason play. McCoy leads the team with 29 points (2nd ACC) and 11 goals (2nd ACC) while her seven assists are tied for fourth in the league. The Lincolnwood, Ill., native has tallied one four-point and three three-point contests this season and has at least one in all but five matches in 2018, tallying a point in 12 of the last 15 matches.
McCoy's play ramped up in conference action, as she tallied eight goals and two assists. Her eight scores led the league, with her 19 points standing second. She also topped the conference with 0.80 goals per game.
McCoy Continues Her Record Book Climb…

McCoy's five game-winning goals this season has her career total now up to 15, putting her third on the DWS all-time list. She's two shy of Casey McCluskey (2001-04) for second place and five behind the record holder Kelly Walbert (1992-95), who has 20.
The Duke senior forward also stands fourth with 90 career points and tied for fifth with five career multi-goal performances.
