DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke women's soccer standout
Imani Dorsey has been called up to the U.S. Women's National Team, as newly-appointed Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski has named his first roster, officially announced Friday afternoon. Andonovski called up 24 players for a training camp prior to the USA's final two matches of the year.
The national squad will face off against Sweden on Thursday, Nov. 7, at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, which is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on FS1. The team's final match of the year will come against Costa Rica on Sunday, Nov. 10, at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., which is set to air on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET.
Dorsey was one of three first-time call-ups on the roster, which also included 17 players from the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup roster. The Elkridge, Md., native will see her first training camp action with the senior side after starring with the U.S. Under-23 WNT.
"First, I want to make sure that everyone on the World Cup Team has an opportunity to work with me and give me an opportunity to see them and see what stage of their game they're at right now," said Andonovski. "But at the same time, I think it's crucial that we give a chance to players that have done well for their pro teams and deserve to have a good look and a solid evaluation in the National Team environment. We have quite a few injured players from the World Cup Team, and they need to rest and get healthy. Also, we wanted to add players that weren't at the World Cup because the main goal from the start is to grow the player pool."
Dorsey, the 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year, followed up her rookie season with an impressive sophomore year in 2019. In her second year with Sky Blue FC, she appeared in 23 of the 24 total regular season games, all coming as starts. The 2017 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches National Scholar-Athlete of the Year tallied two goals on the season and clocked in a total of 1959 minutes of action.
