DURHAM, N.C. – No. 6 Virginia Tech was too much for Duke as it defeated the Blue Devils, 42-3, Friday night in Card Gymnasium.
Freshman
Conor Becker did earn his first career win though after he took down Sam Fisher in the 174-pound matchup. Becker started strong, registering a two-point takedown before recording a four-point near fall. Fisher would battle back in the second period, but Becker held on down the stretch for Duke's lone victory on the night.
Fellow classmate
Logan Agin also had a good showing for the Blue Devils despite dropping his contest at 125-pounds. The Lancaster, Ohio, native dropped a gut-wrenching 3-2 decision after Virginia Tech's Joey Prata earned an escape point as the final buzzer sounded.
Drake Doolittle followed that up with another solid performance for Duke at 133 pounds. He and Brandon Wittenberg battled back-and-forth for the opening two periods before Wittenberg held on for the 5-3 decision win.
Duke is back on the road when it travels to Charlottesville, Va., on Friday, Feb. 5 for a 6 p.m. matchup with Virginia. That dual will be broadcast live on the ACC Network.
