Finesilver Wins Second Straight Title at Mountaineer Invitational

BOONE, N.C. – Redshirt senior Matt Finesilver won his second straight title this fall, taking the top spot at 174 pounds to lead the Duke wrestling program at the Mountaineer Invitational on Sunday.

Finesilver dropped just two points on the day, opening the day with a 6-2 decision over Indiana's Nick South. After earning a spot in the final due to a medical forfeit, Finesilver controlled his final from the start, securing a 6-0 decision over Michael Ferre of Kent State.

Finesilver was one of two Blue Devils to reach a final on the day, with junior Jonah Niesenbaum also reaching the final at 285 pounds. Niesenbaum won his first match via major decision and advanced to the final on a 7-4 decision over Indiana's Jacob Bullock. While ultimately falling to the No. 4 wrestler in the nation in Arizona State's Cohlton Schultz, Niesenbaum continued his hot start to the season, improving to a 6-2 record through two invitationals.

Redshirt senior Josh Finesilver recorded his first ranked victory of the year, en route to a third-place finish at 149 pounds. Finesilver opened the event with his second win over Air Force's Dylan Martinez this season, winning a 6-0 decision. While falling to No. 9 Jonathan Millner, Finesilver bounced back with a 5-3 decision over 30th-ranked Graham Rooks of Indiana to finish in third.

Redshirt sophomore Brandon LaRue and junior Wade Unger also notched strong finishes at Appalachian State. LaRue took third place in the 165-pound open division, finishing off his placement with a win via fall over the unattached Will Miller (Appalachian State) at 4:02. Unger tallied two wins on the day to place fourth at 157 pounds, with a win by fall over Indiana's Kasper McIntosh to headline his day.

The Blue Devils will return to action and open dual match play on Nov. 21, facing off against Bellarmine, Northern Illinois and No. 21 Purdue, in West Lafayette, Ind.
