DURHAM, N.C. – After a very successful fall campaign, Duke rowing head coach
Adrian Spracklen announced the Blue Devils' 2025 spring schedule Thursday afternoon.
Duke kicks off the spring slate March 15, traveling to Oak Ridge, Tenn., to compete in the 13th annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Melton Hill Lake. A few weeks later, the Blue Devils head back to Oak Ridge for two days of racing in the Rocky Top Invitational, hosted by Tennessee, April 4-5.
Duke is back on the water April 18-19 for the Big Ten Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. The Blue Devils will compete against some of the nation's top programs in Alabama, Brown, Clemson, Harvard, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Penn, Rutgers, SMU, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Washington and Wisconsin.
Closing out the month of April, the Blue Devils return home to co-host the Lake Wheeler Invitational with North Carolina April 25-26.
The 2025 ACC Championships will be held May 16-17 on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. Last season, the Blue Devils finished third overall in the team standings, after placing all five boats into the grand final races with the Varsity Four's gold medal performance highlighting the day. The Second Varsity Four collected a silver medal, while the Second Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight each took home bronze.
Following the ACC Championships, the Blue Devils look to earn their sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships held May 30-June 1 in West Windsor, N.J. In 2024, Duke finished 16th against a tough 22-team field with 46 points in the championship regatta. The Blue Devils advanced all three boats to C Final races and were one of three ACC teams to compete in the three-day regatta, joining Syracuse and Virginia.
Spracklen is in his first season with the Blue Devils after being named the program's third head coach on July 12. He comes to Durham after a 32-year stint as the director of rowing at Mercyhurst University. Under Spracklen's guidance, the Lakers women's rowing team made 18 appearances at the NCAA Division II National Championships, including three national titles and six runner-up finishes. After taking over the men's program in 1998, the Lakers men's team has become equally successful, capturing eight Dad Vail trophies during the last 10 years.
