Four Blue Devils Win Brackets to Highlight Day at Journeyman Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Duke wrestling team featured four Blue Devils – Connor Barket, Mikey Boulanger, Dylan Ross and Aidan Wallace – win their bracket to highlight Sunday's action at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.

Barket won three bouts to win the Black group, Boulanger went 3-0 to take the Blue group, Ross collected three victories to win the Tan bracket and Wallace registered three wins to claim the Red group.

Duke also featured three Blue Devils that took second place in their brackets as well – John King, SP O'Donnell and Logan Richey. All three registered 2-1 records. Junior Raymond Adams placed third in his group with a 2-1 ledger.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Connor Barket received a bye in round one in the heavyweight Black group. He then won by medical forfeit in round two versus Nick Pavlechko. In round three, Barket collected a tech. fall, 19-4, versus Daniel Bittner of Harvard. Barket notched a 14-7 decision in the finals against Vincent Mueller of Columbia.
Freshman Mikey Boulanger opened action in the 157-pound Blue group with a 6-3 decision versus Seth Weaver of Franklin & Marshall. Boulanger fell behind, 3-0, with a takedown by Weaver and trailed, 3-1, at the end of the first. Boulanger collected an escape and takedown in the second and held on for the win. After a bye in the second round, Boulanger was impressive against Columbia's Mark Maurath with a tech. fall victory, 16-1. In the finals, Boulanger won by major decision, 12-4, versus Casper Stewart.
Dylan Ross competed in the 149-pound Tan group. He opened with a tech. fall, 15-0, versus Jack DiBenedetto of Sacred Heart and then defeated Blue Devil teammate SP O'Donnell, 5-1 decision, in round two. In the finals, Ross fell behind Marco Frinzi of Columbia, 3-0, in the first, but registered an escape and takedown to go ahead, 4-1, and never trailed the rest of the way winning by a 6-3 decision.
In the Red group at 174 pounds, Aidan Wallace collected a 10-4 decision against Hofstra's Jurius Clark in round one and then had a bye in the second round. He totaled a major decision, 13-4, against John Alierie of Clarion in round three, before registering an 8-1 decision against Gage LaPlante of Army in the finals.
Redshirt freshman John King won his first two bouts Sunday at 133 pounds, before falling in the finals of the Green group. He totaled an 8-5 decision versus Clarion's Dylan Kadish and a 5-4 decision against Franklin & Marshall's Charlie Colantonio by a 5-4 decision.
Redshirt sophomore SP O'Donnell notched a pair of wins versus Marco Frinzi of Columbia (4-3 decision) and Jack DiBenedetto of Sacred Heart (5-2 decision).
With two wins, redshirt sophomore Logan Richey advanced to the finals before falling to Isalas Jimenez of Penn at 197 pounds.
Junior Raymond Adams won his first match at 141 pounds with a 10-1 major decision against Yanni Vines of Columbia. He then dropped a close, 4-2, decision against Mason Gibson of Rutgers, before winning the third-place bout with a 6-0 decision versus Jake Zaltsman of Lock Haven.

NOTES

Connor Barket is now 46-30 all-time for the Blue Devils and 29-12 over the last two seasons.
Aidan Wallace moved to 29-13 at Duke and 28-10 over the last two years.
John King collected his first two wins as a Blue Devil on the day.
Raymond Adams now owns 14 career wins.
Dylan Ross moved to 6-1 all-time as a Blue Devil.
Mike Boulanger now owns a 4-2 ledger on the season.

WHAT IS NEXT

Next up for the Blue Devils will be Morgan State and Drexel Sunday, Nov. 16 in Baltimore, Md. The bouts will take place at 12 p.m., and 2 p.m., respectively.
