CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke freshman forward
Cameron Boozer swept the ACC weekly men's basketball awards, the conference announced on Monday, Dec. 1.
Boozer amassed 35 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, while shooting 13-of-18 from the field and 2-of-4 from three-point range in an 80-71 victory over No. 22 Arkansas on Thanksgiving day in Chicago. After not scoring for the first nine minutes of the game, Boozer scored 15 points in the last 10:06 of the first half, then added 20 points after intermission.
The Miami, Florida, native now has two 35-point games this season, cementing himself as the first Duke freshman, and just the third Blue Devil since 1976, to score at least 35 points twice in a season. Boozer is tied with
Jared McCain and
Zion Williamson for the second-best scoring performance by a Duke freshman.Â
Boozer has won both weekly awards twice this season, joining his Co-Player and Co-Rookie honors on Nov. 17.Â
The Blue Devils have had an ACC Player of the Week 154 total times, second most in the league, trailing only North Carolina (158). Over the last 12Â seasons (since the start of 2013-14), Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 102 of a possible 208 weeks (49.0%). Twenty-eight different Blue Devils have won the award at least once in that time.
No. 4 Duke (8-0) next takes the court on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when it welcomes No. 15Â Florida (5-2) to Cameron Indoor Stadium for the ACC/SEC Challenge. The Blue Devils and Gators are scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m., broadcast live on ESPN.Â
