DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Shawn Wilbourn has been tapped the 2025 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year, as the organization announced its annual regional awards for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season.
Wilbourn led the Blue Devil men to one of their most successful seasons in recent memory with seven new school records and 24 top-five program marks. Duke captured individual titles in the pole vault and hammer throw and 11 All-ACC honors en route to earning the program's first ACC Outdoor Championship.
Additionally, under Wilbourn's direction the Blue Devils qualified a program-record 17 athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships across 10 events, with eight of those qualifiers coming on the men's side. Duke produced seven USTFCCCA All-Americans, garnering three first-team accolades (400m, hammer throw and pole vault) and four nods to the second team (4x400m).
The honor is Wilbourn's fourth career USTFCCCA Southeast Region Award and second as head coach after being named the 2023 Southeast Region Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year. Wilbourn was also the recipient of the organization's Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons, earning recognition in 2015 and 2016.
