DURHAM, N.C. – Duke softball head coach
Marissa Young announced the addition of middle infielder
Tyrina Jones to the Blue Devil softball program Tuesday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to welcome Tyrina as a graduate transfer to our experienced lineup," said Young. "She embodies the culture we strive for – passionate, hardworking and driven to compete at the highest level. Her speed, athleticism and versatility will bring valuable depth to our infield. We're excited to have her join the Duke family and can't wait to see the impact she'll have both on and off the field."
Jones graduated from Purdue in May with a degree in educational studies and joins the Blue Devils as a graduate student. In her four years with the Boilermakers, Jones appeared in 135 career games and earned 133 starts, primarily at shortstop. She owns a .269 career batting average with 113 hits, 14 home runs and 66 RBI.
The Lake Worth, Fla., native did not see action in 2025 due to injury. During her junior season in 2024, she tallied a team-high five home runs and finished second in RBI (24), doubles (8) and triples (4). She recorded the first multi-home run game of her career during the conference series opener against Iowa to lead the Boilermakers to a 3-2 extra-innings victory over the Hawkeyes.
She posted a standout sophomore season in 2023, starting all 53 games, and tallied career-highs in batting average (.315), hits (56), doubles (10) and home runs (8). She recorded 17 multi-hit outings and eight multi-RBI performances on the year.
In the classroom, Jones was one of just four active players to garner Academic All-Big Ten honors in three straight seasons after earning the distinction in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Jones is set to join fellow transfers
Mallory Wheeler (Louisiana) and
Larissa Jacquez (UIW) and freshmen
London Collins,
Brookelyn Grayson,
Ariel Krueger,
Adelyn Matthews,
Gabriella Shadek and
Jayla Stafford as the eight newcomers on the Blue Devils' roster this fall.
