BROOKLYN, N.Y. –
Sion James and
Tyrese Proctor heard their names called in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft Thursday night at Barclays Center. With the duo joining Duke's trio of freshmen drafted in the first round, the Blue Devils' draft class reached five players for just the second time in program history.
James was selected with the 33rd overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets and Proctor followed at pick No. 49 by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
With the two second-round selections joining
Cooper Flagg (No. 1, Dallas Mavericks),
Kon Knueppel (No. 4, Charlotte Hornets) and
Khaman Maluach (No. 10, Houston Rockets), the Blue Devils have now had five players selected in a single draft twice, joining the 2022 draft class of
Paolo Banchero (No. 1, Orlando Magic),
Mark Williams (No. 15, Charlotte Hornets),
AJ Griffin (No. 16, Atlanta Hawks),
Wendell Moore Jr. (No. 26, Dallas Mavericks) and
Trevor Keels (No. 42, New York Knicks).
Duke head coach
Jon Scheyer now has nine draft picks in his three years as the Blue Devils' head coach. Since Scheyer joined the coaching staff in 2013-14, Duke has produced 35 draft picks.
Among the most prolific college basketball programs in generating NBA Draft picks, Duke's 116 overall selections positions the Blue Devils as one of just four college program all-time to surpass 100 picks. In the past 10 years, Duke tops the country with 30 selections.
