CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke women's lacrosse player Sydney Smith and Duke volleyball's Millie Muir will serve on the 2025-26 ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board, as announced by the conference last week.
The ACC SAAC representatives play an important role in bridging the gap between administrative personnel and the student-athlete body both at their respective institutions and throughout the conference. The committee is designed to incorporate ideas and opinions from student-athletes into legislative decisions that will affect our academic and athletic pursuits. These athletes are developing valuable leadership skills as they address changes in rules and regulations, organize community service events and build a positive image for collegiate athletes.
Smith, serving the SAAC for the second consecutive year, is a starting defender entering her senior year for the Blue Devil women's lacrosse team. Smith, a product of Mt. Airy, Maryland, was crucial to Duke's defense last season, picking up 14 ground balls and forcing 16 turnovers. She started in all 20 games in 2025, helping anchor the defense of the team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.
In 2024, Smith was honored with the ACC Top Six for Service Award. She's been on panels advocating for student-athletes and the student-athlete experience. She is heavily involved with our United Black Athletes organization and their outreach campaign and helps tutor kids in local public schools.
Muir, a native of Stanford, California, will serve the SAAC for the first time. She serves as the team's captain for the second consecutive year. Last season she totaled 36 assists, 10 digs and four blocks in 33 sets played.
Muir was named one of the 2024 Duke Presidential Ambassadors, an organization of student ambassadors dedicated to serving the university. Muir was also selected for the ACC 2024 Unity Tour. The tour is part of the ACC's commitment to supporting student-athletes through meaningful educational opportunities, including in the area of social justice. This annual event is a component of the league's social justice platform, ACC UNITE.
