Mensah Placed on Davey O'Brien Award Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt sophomore quarterback Darian Mensah has been selected to the preseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
Mensah is set for his first year as a Blue Devil after transferring from Tulane in January. He is ranked at No. 28 on the College Sports Network top-100 returning player list and No. 44 on the CBSSports top-150 players chart for 2025. The San Luis Obispo, Calif., product is also the No. 3 transfer decision heading into 2025, according to ESPN.com. In 13 career games (13 starts), Mensah has completed 189-of-287 passes for 2,723 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed 60 times for 132 yards (2.20) and one score.
Last fall, Mensah led all American Athletic Conference (AAC) starters in yards per attempt (9.49) and completion percentage. He led a Green Wave offense that ranked among the top 10 nationally in third down conversion percentage (2nd/.525), yards per completion (6th/14.32), team passing efficiency (7th/166.86) and points per game (9th/37.15).Â
The 35-player Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2025 will be announced October 28. For the fifth straight year, fan voting on social media will earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds. First-round fan voting will begin October 28 following the QB Class announcement. The list of semifinalists selected from the QB Class will be named November 12. The Davey O'Brien Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later. The 2025 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN December 11, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
