DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach Manny Diaz announced Friday that wide receiver Jonah Burton has signed a financial aid agreement to attend the institution and join the Blue Devil gridiron program.
The 5-11, 195-pound Burton played in 18 games for Baylor (11) and Idaho State (seven) with three starts over the past five years. Burton helped Baylor to a 29-23 overall mark, 19-17 Big 12 record, the 2021 Big 12 Championship and three bowl trips with a 2022 Allstate Sugar Bowl victory against No. 8 Ole Miss. This past fall at Idaho State, Burton played in seven games as the Bengals went 6-6. Â
Burton caught 22 passes for 263 yards (11.95) and rushed three times for 15 yards (5.00) during the 2025 season at Idaho State. He finished with a career-high six receptions against Cal Poly and added a season-best 83 receiving yards versus Weber State. In the season opener at UNLV, Burton tallied three grabs for 50 yards. Burton also contributed on special teams with a 14-yard kick return at UC Davis.
A Simi Valley, California, native, Burton will have one season of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2026 campaign.Â
As a Bear from 2021-24, Burton registered nine receptions for 110 yards (12.22) and two rushes for two yards (1.00). He did not appear in any games as a true freshman in 2021 before experiencing action in one game in 2022. As a redshirt sophomore in 2023, he played in 10 games with three starts, hauling in all nine receptions and both rushing attempts. His career-best performance came in the season opener against Texas State with five receptions for 88 yards. He tallied both carries versus Utah. Burton missed the entire 2024 campaign due to injury.Â
During his career, Burton has totaled 31 receptions for 373 yards (12.03), five carries for 17 yards (3.40) and one kickoff return for 14 yards (14.00).Â
