After opening the regular season with two games in the state of California, the second-ranked Duke women's soccer team (1-0-1) returns home to host FIU (0-1-1) Thursday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m., inside Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium.Â
The match will be aired live on the ACC Network Extra with Dean Linke calling the action.Â
Duke will play three out of the next four contests at home in Durham.Â
Over the past five years, Duke owns a record of 17-2-1 in the month of August.Â
Sophomore Jocelyn Travers will miss the FIU contest after receiving a red card at UCLA.
Head coach Kieran Hallis in his second year as the head coach of the Blue Devils, after leading Duke to the NCAA College Cup in 2025 with a 17-5-1 record.Â
The Blue Devils return eight starters and features a roster that has scored 91 career goals entering 2026.Â
The No. 3 preseason ranking for Duke marks the fourth time in the last five seasons the Blue Devils have been a preseason top-five team and the 10th time in school history.Â
 STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
Sam Courtwrightwas named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week Tuesday following her one goal and two assists opening week as a Blue Devil. She was also a finalist for the IWSOC Player of the Week as well.
After only seeing action in 34 minutes in one match as a rookie, sophomore Molly Vapensky made her first collegiate start and secured the win at USC. She played the entire 90 minutes. Vapensky then registered three saves in a 1-1 draw versus No. 9 UCLA Sunday.Â
Avery Oder has now scored in the season opener in back-to-back seasons as she notched one goal last year against Penn State.Â
Cameron Rollerhas started 55 matches in a row as a Blue Devil.Â
The United Soccer Coaches released its preseason watch lists with four Blue Devils earning honors -- Sam Courtwright (Midfielder to Watch), Cameron Roller(Defender to Watch), Katie Shea Collins (Forward to Watch) and Mia Minestrella (Forward to Watch).
The Blue Devils boasted 91 career goals scored on the 2026 team entering the season. Mia Minestrella(30) and Katie Shea Collins(23) have scored 53 of those goals.
Duke features four players who have been named an All-America during their collegiate careers -- Mia Minestrella (2025), Katie Shea Collins (2025), Cameron Roller (2024) and Sam Courtwright (2023).Â
Last year, Kieran Hall became just the third Division I women's soccer coach in NCAA history to take a team to the NCAA College Cup in their first year as a head coach -- Damon Nahas of UNC in 2024 and Marguerie Bates (Aozasa) of UCLA in 2022.
Over the last two years, Duke has sent eight alumnae to the NWSL -- Hannah Bebar (Bay FC), Leah Freeman (San Diego Wave FC), Maggie Graham (Houston Dash), Ella Hase (Racing Louisville FC), Mary Long (Kansas City Current), Carina Lageyre (Angel City FC), Kat Rader (Houston Dash) and Devin Lynch (Denver Summit).Â
 THE SERIES WITH FIU
Duke and FIU will meet for the ninth time in program history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 4-0-4.
The two teams last met Sept. 10, 2010 in Durham, playing to a 0-0 draw in double overtime.
Duke has never lost to FIU and owns a 1-0-2 ledger in matches played in Durham. The Blue Devils have won four of the last five meetings between the programs, with the 2010 draw the lone draw during that stretch.
 SCOUTING FIU
FIU enters the contest with a 0-1-1 record.
The Panthers dropped their last contest against Florida State (2-0) and tied Florida Atlantic, 1-1, to open the season.

 AGAINST THE CONFERENCE USA
Duke owns a record of 20-1-4 all-time against Conference USA opponents -- Charlotte (7-1), FIU (4-0-4), Middle Tennessee (1-0), Old Dominion (5-0) and UAB (3-0).
The Blue Devils have won seven straight matches against Conference USA opponents, with their last non-victory coming in the 0-0 draw against FIU on Sept. 10, 2010.
 HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
The Blue Devils boast an 85-15-11 record at Koskinen Stadium since the start of the 2017 campaign.
In the first half the Blue Devils allowed only four goals at home in 2025.Â
Duke has outscored its opponents 94-15 at home over the last two seasons. The Blue Devils totaled a program-record 50 goals at home in 2024, passing the previous mark of 40 from 2017. Duke notched 42 goals at home in 2025.Â
Mia Oliaro collected 11 assists in 15 home matches in 2025.Â
Mia Minestrella has played in 37 matches at home over her career and notched 22 goals, 11 assists and notched 55 points. She had 12 goals, four assists and 28 points in 15 games a season ago.
 COURTWRIGHT NETS HONORS
Following a solid first week as a Blue Devil, Duke redshirt junior Sam Courtwright was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, as announced Tuesday.
In her first two games as a Blue Devil, Courtwright registered a goal and two assists as Duke traveled to California to face Southern California and No. 9 UCLA.
Courtwright, a native of Dallas, Texas, turned in two assists over the first 12:04 of her Duke debut Wednesday at Southern California. She assisted on goals at the 1:18 and 12:04 marks of the first period and Duke went on to earn a 3-1 victory. The pair of goals scored in the first 12:04 of the season opener marked the third-quickest two-goal stretch in Blue Devil history.
Duke closed the trip at No. 9 UCLA Sunday and Courtwright struck early with a free kick goal only 2:05 into the match to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. It marked her first goal as a Blue Devil and 10th of her collegiate career.
During the trip, the team visited the beach, had dinner at Avery Oder's house, trained at the Angel City FC practice facility, spent quality time with Duke graduate Carina Lageyre and bonded well.Â
