In his role as Business Office Assistant, Larry Cleaver supports business operations with a focus on financial reporting and analytics. He joined the department as a volunteer in 2013, transitioned to a part-time position in 2023 and moved into a full-time role in 2025.
Cleaver previously served as Duke’s assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator from 1987 to 1989. He also held roles at Southern Methodist University as a special assistant to the athletic director and a member of the game day operations team. In addition, he has coached local high school and summer baseball programs for nearly two decades. Outside of athletics, Cleaver spent more than 30 years in the corporate technology sector, most recently as Vice President of Special Programs Engineering at Truist Financial Corporation. He has extensive experience in enterprise strategy, financial management, project management, software engineering, reporting, analytics, marketing automation, customer relationship management, and sales and fundraising lead management.
A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Cleaver earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Florida Atlantic University and received his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Management Information Systems from Southern Methodist University. He was a three-year letterwinner in baseball at FAU and went on to coach at his alma mater before joining Duke.
