In this role, McCarthy leads philanthropic strategy and engagement efforts in support of the women’s basketball program. He collaborates closely with donors, alumni and university partners to enhance fundraising priorities, drive donor impact and build a strong culture of support for Blue Devil student-athletes.
McCarthy arrived at Duke from the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Associate Director of Athletic Development for Major Gifts. At Penn, he managed a portfolio of over 125 donors, served as the primary liaison for multiple varsity teams and closed more than $1.9 million in gift commitments across two fiscal years. He previously held senior roles at the University of New Hampshire, overseeing revenue-generating initiatives and serving as co-administrator for three varsity programs.
Before his collegiate development work, McCarthy spent several years in Minor League Baseball with the Stockton Ports, holding roles including General Manager and Director of Marketing.
McCarthy earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Communication from the University of Vermont in 2010.
