CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Chrissy Floyd scored 23 points as Clemson upset No. 3 Duke 93-75 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.
"They were just mentally and physically much tougher than we were today," Goestenkors said.
Duke, (9-1, 0-1), was off to its best since the 1987-88 season, might have suffered from playing lesser opponents after starting the year with wins over nationally-ranked LSU, Penn State and Boston College.
"We've been able to get away with not doing a lot of the little things well. And Clemson made us pay for all the little mistakes that we made," she said.
The Lady Tigers (5-2, 1-0) put six players in double figures in the victory.
Duke (9-1, 0-1), which had been off to its best start since 1987-88, was unable to handle Clemson's pressing defense.
The Blue Devils shot just 36.5 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 38-35.
Clemson shot 48 percent for the game, including 15 of 29 in the second half as it pulled away.
In addition to Floyd's 23 points, Erin Bath added 14, Marci Gleaned put in 13, and Nutria Fords, Crystal Scott, and Lake Stokes had 10 each.
Forward Lana Beard lead Duke with 18 points, but fouled out with 2:05 remaining. Georgia Schweitzer added 12 and Rochelle Parent and Iciss Tillis had 10 apiece.
Clemson, benefitting from the press whenever the clock was stopped, built a 12-point lead with 2:14 left in the first half, as Julie Aderhold hit two free throws.
But Duke roared back with an 8-0 run, capped by Tillis' basket with 20 seconds left to play, to cut the halftime score to 41-37 Clemson
Two foul shots by Bath gave the Lady Tigers their largest lead at 91-70 with less than a minute to play.
