After a four-game road swing, the eighth-ranked Blue Devils (7-2) will return home on Sunday with a non-conference matchup against UNC Greensboro (4-3) at 8:00 PM in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game will be broadcasted live on WDNC-AM 620 beginning at 7:30 PM with Steve Barnes and Missy Anderson calling the contest.
With a win on Sunday, Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors would become the all-time winningest coach at Duke with 214 victories. She would pass Debbie Leonard, who recorded a 213-189 record in 15 seasons.
The Blue Devils are coming off a four game road trip where Duke was a perfect 4-0 in action. Duke won by an average margin of 26.5 points a game and shot 52 percent from the field in the four contests.
Duke is currently ranked eighth in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

A Look at UNC Greensboro...
UNC Greensboro enters Sunday's contest with a 4-3 record and is coming off a 60-46 victory over East Carolina. The Spartans are led by Samika Foster (10.3 points), Jacinda Lambert (10.1 points) and Brianne Dodgen (10.0 points). UNC Greensboro is coached by Lynne Agee in her 21st year.
Duke and UNCG have faced one common opponent -- Charlotte. The Blue Devils defeated the 49ers 64-39, while the Spartans fell to Charlotte 60-44.
The Series With UNC Greensboro...
The Blue Devils and Spartans will meet for the 11th time on Sunday. It will mark the sixth time UNC Greensboro has traveled to Durham, N.C. to play Duke. The all-time series record is 8-2 in favor of the Blue Devils with Duke winning the last eight in a row by an average of 16 a game. UNCG won the first two meetings in the series in 1977-78. Head coach Gail Goestenkors needs one more victory to become the all-time wins leader at Duke. She will move ahead of Debbie Leonard, which recorded a 213-189 record in 15 years at Duke.
Coach G has notched a 213-80 record in 10 seasons. Goestenkors became the third-quickest ACC coach to notch 200 victories last season in just 277 games (Kay Yow - 257, Chris Weller - 262).
Beard & Currie Claim ACC Weekly Honors...
Duke's Alana Beard and Monique Currie garnered this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
Beard, a sophomore guard earns ACC Player of the Week recognition after averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 3.5 steals in leading Duke to two road victories over Virginia and Georgetown. The Shreveport, La, native shot .727 (16 for 22) from the field, .750 (3 for 4 ) from 3-point range and .800 (4 for 5 ) from the free throw line in the two wins.
Against Virginia, Beard posted a team-best 23 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, three steals and one block while hitting 9 of 10 field goals. Against Georgetown, Beard recorded 16 points, dished out eight assists, grabbed three rebounds, had four steals and one blocked shot.
Beard is averaging 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 4.2 steals, while hitting 60 percent of her field goals in nine games.
Rookie of the Week honors are claimed for the third time by Duke freshman Monique Currie. In Duke's two wins, Currie averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and hit .571 percent of her field goals.
At Virginia, the Washington D.C., native recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She hit 6 of 10 field goals, had one assist and one steal in 23 minutes. At Georgetown, she posted a team-best 17 points and five rebounds on 6 of 11 field goals. Currie notched two steals and hit 5 of 6 free throws in only 27 minutes.
Currie is averaging 14.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals, while hitting 54 percent of her field goals.
Rebounding With A Bang...
In Duke's last two games since announcing the two transfers, the Blue Devils came alive averaging 98.0 points a game and winning by 34.5 points at Virginia and Georgetown. In the two games, Duke hit 58 percent of its field goals, 63 percent of its 3-point field goals, 77 percent of its free throws and outrebounded opponents by 19.5 a contest.
The Blue Devils hit 15 three-pointers and held opponents to 38 percent from the field in the two games.
Fireball...
Over the last four games, Duke is shooting 52 percent from the field and 49 percent from 3-point land. In those contests, the Blue Devils are averaging 84.0 points and holding opponents to only 36 percent shooting.
Krapohl Makes First Start...
What a way to get your first career start-- National television against the fifth-ranked team and at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. Sophomore Vicki Krapohl made the most of her start at point guard on Dec. 2 playing 23 minutes, dishing out one assist and grabbing three rebounds.
At 5-5, Krapohl is the smallest player on the court, but she is providing excellent play at point guard which Duke needs. Since she was given the starting nod, Krapohl is averaging 4.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and hitting 67% of her 3-point field goals. All three starts have come on the road.
Boyle Sidelined...
Duke assistant coach Joanne Boyle was released from the hospital on Dec. 12 and then was admitted to the Durham Regional for rehab. She only stayed there for two days before being able to go home. Coach Boyle is doing great in her recovery, but no timetable has been set for her return to the team. She is hoping to attend the game Sunday as a spectator.
On A Mission...
Sophomore Iciss Tillis has been on a mission since returning from her one game suspension as she is averaging 14.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks the last five games. In games against USC and Charlotte, she recorded double-doubles and is second in the ACC with three double-doubles on the season. She has six overall in two years of action. Tillis notched 19 points and 11 rebounds versus USC along with 11 points and a career-high 14 boards at Charlotte. She had a career-high three blocks against Louisiana Tech.
More Than A Scorer...
Sophomore All-America Alana Beard has proven since she has been at Duke that she is more than a scorer. Beard is one of the best defensive players in the nation and is proving this season that she can dish out the rock just as good as anyone.
So far this season, Beard is averaging 6.4 assists a game, which ranks second in the ACC. She has dished out 28 assists the last three games for an average of 9.3 a contest.
Off The Bench...
Duke has been blessed with key bench play through the first nine games. The Blue Devils are averaging 43.0 (387) points a game off the bench, which is half of Duke's points per game (86.2). A chart of the points off the bench is located on page six of the game notes. Duke's three reserves accounted for 44 points at Virginia and 45 at Georgetown.
In the Record Books...
In only 39 career games, sophomore Alana Beard has already moved into tied for ninth on Duke's all-time steals list with 144. The career record is 232 by Katie Meier. This season she leads the ACC with a 4.22 per game average.
A Fab Freshman...
Monique Currie has proven in the first nine games that she is one of the top offensive players in the country even though she is only a freshman. Currie, who has been selected ACC Rookie of the Week three times, is averaging 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds in only 24.0 minutes a contest. The Washington, D.C. native is the top freshman scorer in the ACC, while hitting 54 percent of her field goals. Currie ranks eighth in the ACC in field goal percentage (.538), 12th in scoring (14.3) and 11th with 5.9 rebounds a game.
In two games against ranked opponents and on national television, Currie is averaging 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds. When comparing Currie to other freshmen, she ranks in the top three in scoring nationally.
Schweitzer To Help Coach...
One of Duke's all-time greatest women's basketball players, Georgia Schweitzer, has been named a temporary assistant coach with Gail Goestenkors staff in the absence of Joanne Boyle. Schweitzer will report back to the Minnesota Lynx on May 1, 2002.
She will assist with the coaching of the guards, scouting and recruiting.
Last season with Minnesota, Schweitzer started eight of 24 games played averaging 3.6 points and 2.1 rebounds.
Blue Devils In The Spotlight...
It seems like the 2001-02 Blue Devils like playing against ranked opponents and on national television. In two games Duke is 2-0 with a 14.0 victory margin. Five different Blue Devils are averaging double-figures points (Currie - 18.0, Tillis - 16.0, Beard - 12.5, Mosch - 11.0, Whitley - 10.5). Duke is averaging 80.5 points and holding opponents to only 66.5 points. The Blue Devils are shooting 50 percent from the field and forcing 21.5 turnovers a game.
Double-Figure Points...
So far this season, Duke has won all six games when recording four or more players in double figures scoring. In the Virginia game, Duke had six players in double-figures, six at Georgetown, five against Texas Tech, four versus Elon, six against Davidson and four versus La. Tech.
In the last two games, six of the eight players have scored in double figures.
Since Coach G arrived in 1992-93, the Blue Devils are 47-1 when having five or more players score in double-figures in a game. The only loss was the four overtime game against Alabama in the 1995 NCAA Tournament.
The Super Sophomore...
National Player of the Year candidate Alana Beard hasn't had any letdown in her sophomore season. In the last seven games, Beard is averaging 19.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 4.4 steals, while shooting 65 percent from the field. She has been playing the rotating from the wing to the point guard position for most of her minutes. For the season she is averaging, 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 4.2 steals.
In the ACC rankings, Beard ranks first in scoring (17.9), T-12th in rebounding (5.8), third in field goal percentage (.598), second in assists (6.44), first in steals (4.22) and third in assist/turnover ratio (2.42).
