Saras Arasu Claims ASU Thunderbird Singles Title On Sunday

TEMPE, ARIZ. - Duke University sophomore Saras Arasu claimed the singles title on Sunday at the Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational by defeating teammate Katie Blaszak, 7-5, 6-3, in Tempe, Ariz. It marks the first singles title for the Tampa, Fla. native, who is ranked 47th-nationally.
In doubles action, the Duke tandem of Susie Abromeit/Arasu knocked of Colalillo/Yeats from Arizona State (8-5), but then fell in the finals 8-2 to 32nd-ranked Jacobs/Scheldt of California. Abromeit also won the singles second consolation final with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Hayley McIver of Kansas State.
This concludes the fall season for Duke and the Blue Devil team schedule will start on January 18 with a 5:00 PM match at Northwestern.
