The Duke University wrestling team placed 14th at the Beast of the East Tournament over this past weekend. The Blue Devils had three wrestlers post multiple wins while tallying 11.50 team points. Scott Doerr, Stuart Holzer and Tim Marcantonio posted 2-2 records for head coach Clar Anderson.
Holzer, wrestling at 133-pounds, opened the tournament with a 14-5 win over Mike Shannon of Binghampton. After falling into the wrestlebacks, Holzer topped Ryan Spencer of Delaware, 8-1, before being eliminated.
Doerr, a freshman, earned a 10-1 win over Dan Markiewaz (Princeton) and pinned Vinny Vazzana (Wagner) in :58 at 157-pounds for the Blue Devils. At 184-pounds, Tim Marcantonio topped Dustin Craighton, 14-1, and Pat Shufelt (Drexel), 4-2.
