Duke and Georgia Tech met for the 73rd time this afternoon, with the Yellow Jackets holding a 42-30-1 series lead. The two teams have now met 36 times in Durham, N.C. The series is tied 18-18 in games played in Durham.
Junior CB John Talley recorded his fourth interception of the season and the 10th in his career, a total which is fifth among Duke's all-time leaders (immediately ahead are three Blue Devils wih 13). He leads all active ACC players with 10 interceptions.
Including his five-yard return today, Talley's 245 career interception return yards rank second all-time at Duke behind only Fred Folger (283 yards). His 245 career interception return yards rank third nationally among active players behind only Fresno State's Richard Marshall (294) and UCLA's Spencer Havner (280).
After being injured in the first quarter, sophomore DT Casey Camero returned and recovered a Yellow Jacket fumble in the second quarter this afternoon.
Sophomore RB Ronnie Drummer continued to make big plays for Duke. Drummer's 50-yard run in the second quarter set up Duke's touchdown that knotted the score at 7-7. Last week at Miami, Drummer had the sixth-longest rush in school history (81 yards) and in the opening game of the season, he ran a kickoff back 100 yards for a score. That matched the second-longest kick return in Duke history.
Freshman LB Michael Brown forced his third fumble of the season. That total is now tied for the team lead with sophomore LB Patrick Bailey.
Senior TE Andy Roland had the first TD reception of the season and seventh in his career this afternoon. He now ranks second among active ACC tight ends with seven career TDs. Only Virginia Tech's Jeff King has more with 10.
Sophomore RB Justin Boyle, Duke's leader in rushing and scoring this season, returned to action this week after missing the Miami game a week ago. Boyle had 27 carries for a team-best 88 yards.
Duke head coach Ted Roof is a 1987 graduate of Georgia Tech. Roof's first win as Duke's head coach was a 41-17 triumph on Nov. 8, 2003, at Wallace Wade Stadium.
