DURHAM, N.C. ? The top-ranked Duke women's basketball team rolled in their exhibition opener, defeating EA Sports, 118-73, on Wednesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Senior Mistie Williams led the Blue Devils with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting; sophomore Chante Black posted a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds and junior Alison Bales poured in 16 points on six-of-nine shooting in the win.
The Blue Devils' post players dominated the paint, outscoring EA Sports 72-18. Freshman Carrem Gay added 13 points in 17 minutes, joining Williams, Bales and Black in double-figure scoring. Duke also held a 36-4 advantage in fast break points while scoring 21 second chance points on the night.
EA Sports scored the first points of the game on a three-pointer by Tamia Williams and the Blue Devils came back to outscore EA Sports 27-10. Duke went on to lead 62-36 at the half, forcing 20 EA Sports turnovers.
Sophomore Laura Kurz scored 13 points, junior guard Lindsey Harding had 12 points and freshman guard Abby Waner added nine points for Duke. The Blue Devils shot 54.8% from the field, connecting on 46 of 84 shots.
For the game, Duke dished out 35 assists led by freshman Brittany Mitch with 10, Abby Waner and Wanisha Smith with five. On the defensive end, the Blue Devils blocked 11 shots led by Bales' game-high seven.
Duke was without the services of senior Monique Currie, Jessica Foley and Keturah Jackson due to injuries, but all three are expected to see action in next week's game.
EA Sports was led by Williams with 14 points, while Brittany Jackson (12), Yolanda Page (11) and Terah James (11) each scored double figures.
The Blue Devils will next host Lander University on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in their final exhibition contest before opening the season on Nov. 18 at Penn State.
