DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke wrestling team will send its impressive freshman class to Charleston, S.C., to compete in The Citadel Open on Saturday at 10 a.m. In last weekend's intrasquad scrimmage, the freshman class picked up six wins against fellow Duke grapplers.
With two state champions and three state runner-up finishers entering their first year with the Blue Devils, Duke wrestling will look to its freshman class to make an immediate impact on the season. “This will be a rebuilding year for Duke wrestling but we have a strong freshman class that will step in and fill any void,” said Duke Head Coach Clar Anderson.
The Citadel Open will feature 100 true and redshirt freshmen from over 10 colleges and universities from around the region.
“I love The Citadel Open because it is a great transition for the freshmen from high school to college wrestling,” Anderson said. “I have high expectations for our freshmen and redshirt freshmen this year.”
