Blue Devils & Rams To Tangle Thursday...
In the last contest prior to the Christmas break, second-ranked Duke (8-0) will host Colorado State (5-3) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium. After Thursday's game, the Blue Devils will have five days off before traveling to San Diego, Calif., for the Surf'N Slam Classic on Dec. 28 & 30.
Duke is currently ranked second in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches Polls.
Noting The Blue Devils...
The Blue Devils enter Thursday's game with a 386-112 points in the paint advantage so far this season ... after finishing the season with only eight players in 2004-05, the Blue Devils feature a roster of 13 this year ... Duke was ranked No. 1 in the preseason by the Associated Press, Street & Smith's and Lindy's Magazine polls
A Look At Colorado State...
Colorado State enters the contest on Thursday with a 5-3 record under head coach Jen Warden, who is in her first year at CSU. The Rams are led by Melissa Dennett (15.8 pts., 9.4 rbs.), Vanessa Espinoza (15.6 pts., 16 treys), Lindsay Thomas (12.0 pts.) and Sara Hunter (10.1 pts.). CSU owns a 5-1 record this season at home and 0-2 on the road.
The Series With Colorado State...
The meeting on Thursday will be the first between Duke and Colorado State.
Duke Versus The Mountain West...
Duke owns an all-time record of 5-0 against teams from the Mountain West-- Brigham Young (1-0), San Diego State (1-0), TCU (2-0) and Utah (1-0).
Kurz Coming On Strong...
Sophomore Laura Kurz continues to impress in her second year with the Blue Devils and over the last two contests she has led Duke with averages of 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals, while hitting 56.5 percent of her field goals and 37.5 percent from downtown.
On the season, Kurz has scored double-figures in four of eight games, including a season-high 19 points versus Arkansas State on Nov. 25. She is averaging 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and hitting 56.3 percent of her field goals on the year.
Blue Devils To Travel To San Diego...
The second-ranked Blue Devils will travel to San Diego, Calif., after a five-day break for the Christmas holiday. Duke will take on St. John's on Dec. 28 and then will play the winner of the Montana State/San Diego game on Dec. 30 before heading home on Dec. 31.
During the trip to San Diego, the Blue Devils will head to the famous San Diego Zoo.
The Injury Report...
Duke has been saddled with various injuries so far this season with the latest one coming to freshman Carrem Gay, who suffered a shoulder injury in practice last week. She missed the Ball State game and is questionable for the Colorado State contest. The status of freshman Keturah Jackson is doubtful for the Colorado State game. Jackson suffered a severe ankle sprain in late September and is still recovering. Freshman Brittany Mitch had surgery on her hip Dec. 2 and will miss 3-5 weeks.
Rebounding Advantage...
Duke continues to rebound very well this year with an ACC-best 48.2 boards a contest. The Blue Devils have outrebounded every opponent this year and are currently outrebounding teams by a 17.4 clip. Duke is coming off a season-high 62 rebounds against Ball State on Monday.
Home Games...
The Blue Devils enter the Colorado State game with a 4-0 record at home and are averaging 99.8 points a game this year. Duke is hitting 56.6 of its field goals and holding opponents to 24.4 percent from the field in those contests. In the four games, Duke is outscoring the visiting teams by a 59.5 margin.

The first edition of the NCAA stats have been posted and the Blue Devils are dominating the categories as Duke ranks No. 1 in seven of them-- scoring offense (95.1), scoring margin (44.4), field goal percentage (54.4), field goal percentage defense (28.9), won-loss percentage (100.0), assists (24.8) and blocked shots (8.8). The Blue Devils are second in rebound margin (17.4) and fifth in steals (13.6).
In the individual rankings, Alison Bales is sixth in blocks (3.5) and Chante Black is 24th in blocks (2.5).
