CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - For the second straight Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) contest, the eighth-ranked Duke women's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to a top-10 ranked squad on Friday afternoon as the Blue Devils fell to ninth-ranked Boston College, 1-0, in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Eagles improve to 8-0-1 (2-0-0 ACC), while the Blue Devils drop to 7-2-1 (1-2-0 ACC).
The Eagles came out strong in the first half nearly scoring when freshman Caitlin Hiler fired off a shot to the lower right, but went wide. In the first half, the Eagles kept play in the Blue Devil's half, peppering the defense with six shots.
The game winning goal came at 50:52 when senior co-captain Lindsey McArdle stepped up to take a free kick from 25 yards out. McArdle launched the ball into the box, where Johnson headed home her first goal of the season and fourth career.
Boston College and Duke both recorded 12 total shots. The Eagles had three shots on goal, while the Blue Devils notched five. After totaling 16 or more shots over the first eight contests, Duke has totaled only 19 shots the last two matches.
In goal for the Blue Devils, Allison Lipsher finished with two saves and allowed only the fourth goal of the season for Duke. Boston College has allowed only one goal this season in nine matches.
Eight different Blue Devils took shots on the afternoon with Rebecca Moros totaling a team-best three, while Carolyn Riggs and Kate Seibert added two each.
The two straight scoreless efforts marks the first time in Church's four-year tenure at Duke and is the first time the Blue Devils have gone scoreless in two consecutive games since 1998.
Duke will next travel to Cary, N.C. to face N.C. State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., which will be played at the SAS Soccer Complex.
