DURHAM, N.C. - Monique Currie scored a career-high 31 points as No. 1 Duke (23-1, 10-1 ACC) had a late-game 11-0 run to defeat No. 4 Maryland (22-3, 9-2) 90-80 Monday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Currie rebounded from her two point, 1-of-9 shooting performance against Virginia to shoot 13-of-21 from the field and hit 3-of-4 free throws and added four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Mistie Williams scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Alison Bales had seven rebounds and three big blocks inside for Duke.
Jessica Foley scored 12 points off the bench, including back-to-back three-pointers mid-way through the second half to keep Duke in the game. Wanisha Smith scored 15 points and stepped up to play the point spot after Lindsey Harding went down with a shoulder injury at the mid-point of the second half.
Currie scored 10 of the Blue Devils' first 13 points as Duke built an early 14-8 lead before Maryland fought back and forced the game's four tie at 16 all eight minutes into the game.
The Terps then held the lead for the majority of the game's next 15 minutes spanning halftime, building it up as high as 10 at 43-33 just after halftime. Williams scored seven points in a 19-3 run for Duke that took Duke from 10 down to six up at the mid-point mark of the second half.
Maryland fought back and took the lead at 57-56, but a pair of Foley three-pointers and lay-ups from Currie kept Duke in the game and the score even until the game's last three minutes. Duke's 11-0 run then drove the lead from two to 13 with just a minute remaining and Duke held on and hit its free throws for the 10 point victory.
Duke keeps pace with North Carolina atop the ACC standings, both now sitting at 10-1 in league play. Duke has just three regular season games remaining and travel to Miami to face the Hurricane's Saturday at 4 p.m. Duke then has senior night on Feb. 22 against Virginia Tech before finishing the season at North Carolina on Feb. 25.
