With an 86-61 victory over Michigan State in the NCAA Regional semifinal, Duke improves to 29-3 this season and 33-12 in the NCAA Tournament. In their last 32 NCAA Tournament games, the Blue Devils have posted a 26-7 ledger.
Duke advances to the NCAA Elite Eight for the seventh time in the last eight years and will play the winner of the 9:30 p.m. Connecticut/Georgia game on Tuesday at the Harbor Yard Arena in Bridgeport, Conn.
Duke set a school record for points scored in the Sweet 16 with 86, breaking the previous mark of 76 set in the 1999 East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., where Duke defeated Old Dominion, 76-63.
The Blue Devils shot over 50 percent on field goal and three-point attempts in the first half, making 19-of-37 field goals (.514) and 6-of-11 treys (.514). Duke upped its field-goal percentage to 57.1 percent in the second half (16-28).
Duke is averaging 89 points a game during the 2006 NCAA Tournament with a +42.67 margin of victory. The Blue Devils posted a 96-27 win over Southern in the first round, 85-51 over Southern California in the second and 86-61 over Michigan State in the Sweet 16.
With 45 points in the first half, Duke registered its highest first-half point total since the Clemson game (46) on Jan. 26.
Abby Waner hit three treys in the first half, marking the first time since the Holy Cross game on Jan. 16 that she has made at least three three-pointers.
Waner finished with 14 points and three assists, scoring in double figures for the first time in an NCAA Tournament game as well as the first time since the Virginia Tech game Feb. 22. It was also her highest point total since the Feb. 10 game against Virginia when she also had 14 points.
Alison Bales scored 10 points, marking her 14th double-figure scoring game this season. Bales also finished with five blocks, eight rebounds and three assists.
Bales' five blocks pushed her over the 100-block mark (103) for the season, marking the second time she has achieved that feat and just the third time in ACC history that a player has blocked more than 100 shots in a season. Bales holds the ACC record with 134 in 2005, and North Carolina's Dawn Royster had 114 in 1985.
Monique Currie worked her way up to the No. 3 all-time spot at Duke in made field goals. Currie made seven field goals Sunday and owns 733 for her career.
Currie scored 17 points and moved into 11th place on the ACC career points list with 2,073 for her career. She combined her 17 points with four assists and three rebounds while playing 26 minutes.
Mistie Williams scored 13 points and moved up to ninth place on the Duke career list with 1384 career points. She also finished with five rebounds four steals and two assists in 25 minutes.
With seven assists Sunday, Lindsey Harding has 147 this season and is in sole possession of seventh place on the Duke single-season charts. Harding collected 10 points and six rebounds in 31 minutes.
Jessica Foley made two three-pointers, moving into sole possession of second place on the Duke all-time list and 21st on the ACC career list with 173 career treys.
