DURHAM, N.C. ? Continuing in their adventurous style, members of the Duke wrestling team will be taking this upcoming summer and fall to pursue grand opportunities offered by the university. Several wrestlers will be studying and training abroad over the coming months, giving them a chance to fill out their experience during their time at Duke.
Turner Rooney and Aaron Glover, both entering their junior years academically, will study for six weeks in Mexico this summer, working on their Spanish speaking skills, taking classes and sight-seeing.
A trio of wrestlers will be heading overseas for their learning this summer. Addison Nuding, coming off a successful freshman year, will be in Berlin for half of the summer, studying in the economic capital of Europe. Rising junior Kellan McKeon will be on the other side of the globe in Australia. Dan Fox, another rising junior, will tour Greece and Italy with a Duke program. With any luck his Greco-Roman skills will be in top form.
Another European expedition is planned for wrestling purposes specifically. Konrad Dudziak, Duke's top finisher at the ACC Championships this past season, will return to his native Poland to train for the Junior World Championships, which will be held this summer in Guatemala. Rooney, McKeon and classmate Wes Kuser are all considering joining Dudziak for the training sessions.
Rising senior Daniel Shvartsman is setting his sights on the lovely city of Moscow this fall. A son of Russian immigrants, Shvartsman will take the fall semester off and will be set up with the top wrestling clubs in Moscow, meanwhile burnishing his Russian.
By the time these Blue Devils get back to Durham, their time abroad is sure to broaden the palette of wrestling and experience that the team brings to the table.
