SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 23 Duke women's tennis team improved to 6-2 on the season on Wednesday with a 6-1 win over No. 19 Tennessee at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. The Blue Devils have won 12 straight matches versus the Lady Vols, who fall to 6-6 on the year.
The Blue Devils notched the doubles point for the third consecutive match, as the 36th-ranked tandem of senior Daniela Bercek and sophomore Melissa Mang defeated Conner Vogel and Caitlin Whoriskey, 8-2, at the No. 1 spot, and junior Tory Zawacki and freshman Amanda Granson posted an 8-3 victory over Victoria Jones and Zsofia Zubor at the No. 3 position.
At No. 2, the duo of freshman Elizabeth Plotkin and sophomore Jessi Robinson fell to Samantha Orlin and Blakely Griffith, 8-7 (7-5).
Duke took five of six singles matches to put the final score at 6-1.
At No. 1, Bercek defeated 22nd-ranked Griffith in straight sets (6-2, 7-6), while 108th-ranked Mang recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vogel at the No. 2 spot to improve to 7-1 on the season in dual matches.

“We played really well today and I think that with every match we are getting better and better,” said Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth. “We needed a win like these before the match against Notre Dame tomorrow. I think that with where our team ranking is right now, we feel like we have a lot to prove. This was a great start to this trip.”
The Blue Devils will take on second-ranked Notre Dame on Thursday at 11 a.m. PT. The Fighting Irish are 13-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming to Georgia Tech in the championship game of the National Team Indoor Championships. Notre Dame won its eighth consecutive contest on March 10 with a 5-2 win at then-No. 29 BYU.
