Tough Defense...
The Duke defense has been stellar to open the season as the Blue Devils are holding opponents to 30.3 percent shooting, which ranks first in the ACC and third nationally.
Since Coach P arrived at Duke, it's defense has held 14 opponents to under 30.0 percent shooting and 32 opponents to under 40.0 percent shooting out of 42 games. Overall, the Blue Devils are 13-1 when holding opponents to under 30.0 percent, 16-3 when holding opponents under 40.0 percent shooting and is 3-7 when an opponent shoots over 40.0 percent since Coach P has arrived.

Coming Out Of The Break...
Through the first seven contests, Duke has played its better basketball in the second half. The Blue Devils have averaged 39.9 points, hit 45.1 percent of their field goals, held opponents to 33.0 percent from the field and only 28.7 points per game in the second half.
One of the most glaring numbers of all is the assist/turnover ratio for Duke as in the first half the Blue Devils have dished out 45 assists to 76 turnovers, while in the second half they own 56 assists to 60 turnovers.
Point Guard Shortage...
With injuries to Jasmine Thomas and Chelsea Hopkins, the Blue Devils lost two of their top point guards to run the offense. Thomas, who is a sophomore from Fairfax, Va., opened the season starting at the point guard slot the first four games and Hopkins, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., had been playing an extended amount of time at the point position off the bench.
Thomas suffered a sprained MCL of her left knee in practice on Nov. 26 and came back to practice on Sunday, Dec. 14. Thomas is expected to play against Stanford on Tuesday. Hopkins was injured in the second half of the Western Kentucky game with a lateral meniscus injury. She had surgery on Thursday, Dec. 4 by Dr. Alison Toth and she is expected back in two weeks.
With Thomas and Hopkins injured, junior Keturah Jackson has started at point guard the last three games.
What Is Next?...

Cheek is also hitting 53.7 percent from the field during her four-game stretch.
Over her last two years, Cheek has been deadly from three-point range in Cameron Indoor Stadium. As a junior, she hit 8-of-16 and as a senior she is 4-of-9 for a total of 12-of-25 from long range.
In Elite Company...
Senior Chante Black needs only 26 more rebounds to become the sixth player in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) history to register over 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 200 blocked shots. Other ACC players to register the feat are Alison Bales (Duke), DeMaya Walker (UVA), Dawn Royster (UNC), Peggy Capel (CU) and Dolores Bootz (GT).

Senior Abby Waner needs only 20 rebounds and 16 steals to become the 12th player in ACC history to notch over 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, 250 assists and 265 steals. Only Duke's Alana Beard has ever totaled these numbers.
Waner currently owns 1,184 points, 380 rebounds, 352 assists and 249 steals.
