DURHAM, N.C.?After taking one week off from competition, the Duke University wrestling team resumes its schedule at the Davidson Open on Dec. 6. The action begins at 9 a.m., at the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.
The field at the tournament will feature over 175 student-athletes from 11 schools and numerous more unaffiliated wrestlers also will compete. The field includes local rivals Appalachian State, The Citadel, UNC Greensboro, and VMI, as well as ACC foes Virginia Tech and N.C. State.
Juniors John Barone and Konrad Dudziak head into the weekend undefeated at 184 pounds and heavyweight, respectively. Barone is ranked 18th in his class in the latest national poll, while Dudziak comes in at No. 11. The duo are looking for their fourth tournament titles this season after winning the Wolfpack Open, the Hokie Open, and the Navy Classic.
Sophomore Jared Sernoffsky is having a good season at 157 pounds with a 10-2 overall record and an 8-1 mark in tournament action. He captured top honors at the Citadel Open and finished third at the Hokie Open.
Competing in the 174-pound division, junior Voris Tejada sports a 10-6 mark, while rookie Peter Terrezza has a 10-7 mark at 125 pounds. Freshman Dan Adamo is in search of his second tournament title after winning the Citadel Open at 149 pounds. He is 9-3 overall on the year and 7-2 in tournament action.
The Blue Devils take a brief break for final exams before a selection of wrestlers head west to compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions.
