DURHAM, N.C. ? Four members of the Duke women's tennis team will compete in the prequalifying rounds of singles and doubles for the 2008 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Saturday at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
Three players will be playing singles matches. Jessi Robinson, who was ranked No. 119 in the preseason ITA singles rankings, will take on Wichita State's Stephanie Dalmacio. Robinson went 1-2 at the Georgia Invitational earlier this season. Melissa Mang starts things off against Nadja Gilchrist of Georgia. Mang is 1-2 in singles this season while Gilchrist earned a victory over Duke's Robinson at the Georgia Invitational. Amanda Granson opens play with a match against Sarah Lancaster of Texas. Granson posted a 2-1 record in the first tournament this season.
Robinson and Tara Iyer will team up in doubles in the prequalifying rounds. The Blue Devils' pair is the No. 6 seed and will face the TCU tandem of Idunn Hertzberg and Katariina Touhimaa.
In order to advance to the qualifying rounds, players must win three matches for both singles and doubles. The qualifying and main draw rounds will be held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. with qualifying taking place Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and the main draw Oct. 2-5.
