Blue Devil Tandems Advance to ITA Regional Semifinal

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Duke University junior Reka Zsilinszka won two more singles matches today to advance to the ITA Carolina Region Championship to advance to the quarterfinal round of singles action. Both Blue Devil doubles squads also earned another win to earn spots in the semifinals.
Zsilinszka opened singles play by cruising past North Carolina's Gina Suarez-Malaguti 6-1, 6-1. In the round of 16, 13th-ranked Zsilinszka continued to roll as she eased past Keri Wong of Clemson for a spot in the quarterfinal round. She will take on 12th-ranked Sanaz Marand of North Carolina to advance to the semifinal.
The doubles tandems of Amanda Granson and Ellah Nze and Elizabeth Plotkin and Zsilinszka were equally impressive. Seeded fourth, Granson and Nze battled their way to an 8-6 win over South Carolina foes Maddy Saari-Bystrom and Anna Zubori. Duke will take on the Tar Heels' pair of Sophie Grabinski and Marand for a spot in the championship match on Monday.
Fifth-seeded Plotkin and Zsilinszka were outstanding together in their 8-5 win over No. 18 Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherson from North Carolina. The Blue Devil duo will battle 14th-ranked Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic as they vie for spot in the title match. This weekend marks the first time both doubles teams have played together this season.
Granson, Nze, Plotkin and sophomore Monica Gorny also lined up in singles play. Gorny, Granson and Nze each emerged victorious in their opening matches, but fell in the round of 16.
