Team Notes:
- Duke won its fourth NIT Season Tip-Off championship. They also earned titles in 1985, 2000 and 2005.
- The Blue Devils improved to 22-2 all-time in the NIT Season Tip-Off, including a 10-2 mark at Madison Square Garden. Duke has won 11 of its last 12 games overall at MSG.
- This game was the first ever game between two schools with head coaches who have over 800 career wins. Mike Krzyzewski (839) and Jim Calhoun (809) have combined for 1,648 career wins.
- The win extended Duke's winning streak in the month of November to 22 games. They are 102-10 in the month under Coach K.
- Duke held Connecticut to 59 points and for the tournament held all four opponents to less than 60 points. In the four games, Duke's opponents averaged only 55.0 points per game.
- The Blue Devils held UConn to 0-for-4 from behind the three-point line, the first time since Feb. 26, 2005 against St. John's in Madison Square Garden that a Duke opponent did not make a single three-point field goal.
- Duke shot just .292 (21-of-72) from the field, marking the first time a Blue Devil team has won when shooting under 30 percent since Feb. 4, 1950 when Duke defeated Navy 68-53 after shooting .273 (18-of-66) from the field. Under Coach K, the Blue Devils have shot under 30 percent in only four games - Friday vs. Connectict (.292), Nov. 11, 1999 vs. Stanford (.282), March 23, 2006 vs. LSU (.277) and March 26, 2009 vs. Villanova (.267).
- Duke has now outrebounded all six opponents this season after holding a 52-48 advantage on Friday. The 52 rebounds were the most since the Blue Devils tallied 56 against Maryland on Jan. 24 of last year. The Maryland game was also the last time Duke had 21 offensive rebounds.
Player Notes:
Andre Dawkins
- Freshman Andre Dawkins tallied his third game this season with 10 or more points, scoring 11 points.
- Dawkins has made a three-point field goal in each of his first six career games, leading the team with 15 made treys. He has two or more three-pointers in five of the six games.
- Sophomore Miles Plumlee blocked a shot for the fifth time in six games this season and now has two or more blocks in three contests this season and in six career games. He leads the team with 10 blocks for the season.
- Senior Jon Scheyer was named the NIT Season Tip-Off Most Valuable Player.
- Scheyer scored a team-high 19 points and has scored in double figures in all six games this year and in 82 career games.
- Scheyer made his 200th career three-point field goal in the game, becoming the 10th player in school history to make 200 or more treys.
- With five assists, Scheyer has recorded at least five assists in five straight games and in 14 career games. He now has 32 total assists and just four turnovers in six games on the year.
- Scheyer had three steals, matching his season total, and now has 19 career games with at least three steals.
- Junior Kyle Singler extended his consecutive starts streak to 33 games and has now started in 76 career contests.
- Singler had his streak of 20 consecutive double-figure scoring games come to an end with just six points against Connecticut.
- Singler grabbed seven rebounds to give him three straight games with at least seven boards and four overall games this season.
- Junior Nolan Smith has reached double figures in scoring in all four games he has played in this season and in 27 career games.
- Smith set a career high with two blocked shots in the game. He had seven blocks in his first 71 career games.
- Senior Lance Thomas recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. His 10 rebounds were a career high, passing his previous best of nine rebounds against Boston College on Jan. 28, 2007.
- The 11 points give Thomas his 15th career double-figure scoring game and second of the season.
- Thomas tallied a career high with three blocked shots. It was the fifth time in his career he has blocked two or more shots in a game, the last coming against Maryland on Jan. 24, 2009.
- Thomas also had a career-high seven made free throws, making 7-of-8 from the foul line.
- Senior Brian Zoubek posted over 10 rebounds for the fourth time in his career, finishing with 11 rebounds on Friday. He has two games this year where he has reached double figure rebounds.
- Zoubek matched a career high with three assists, the third time in his career he has dished out three assists in a game.
