DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University wrestling team climbed one more spot in the Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN) Division I Tournament Power Index (TPI) this week. The Blue Devils moved up to the No. 17 spot with 21 TPI points.
Duke edged out Cal Poly by one point for 17th and is just behind Penn State with 23.5 points. The Blue Devils are the second highest ranked squad behind Maryland in 11th. Represented individually in the TPI rankings are seniors John Barone and Konrad Dudziak. Barone is 18th at 197 pounds, while Dudziak is tops at heavyweight.
The Tournament Power Index (TPI) is compiled by awarding points to each team for the ranked wrestlers listed in WIN's current individual rankings. Teams are awarded points based on how many potential All-Americans they could have and get advancement points for wrestlers ranked No. 9-20. The order of teams in the TPI vary greatly from dual meet rankings, as some teams have a number of highly-ranked individuals but may have holes in their dual meet line-up.
Duke returns to the mats on Dec. 29-30 at the Southern Scuffle.
