DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team is hosting the Duke Fab Four Invite in Cary, N.C. at the Cary Tennis Park on Sept. 17-19. There are a total of nine teams competing in a singles and doubles tournament.
The teams that are joining the Blue Devils in the tournament are Northwestern, UNC, Alabama, Illinois, Mississippi, Texas, Purdue, Wisconsin and Princeton. The tournament begins with women's doubles on Friday at 10 a.m. and the first round of women's singles starting at 1 p.m. The action picks up on Saturday with the third and final rounds of doubles starting at 9 a.m. and the second round of singles set to start at 11:30 a.m., followed by the third round of singles at 2:30 p.m. The finals for singles will be Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
Duke singles matches begin with No. 24 and second seed Nadine Fahoum facing off against Alaina Trgovich of Wisconsin. Mary Clayton is set to go against Nida Hamilton of Northwestern while Monica Gorny will play Zoe De Bruycker from North Carolina. Reka Zsilinszka, ranked 25th, will start her singles matches against Mary Anne Macfarlane from Alabama while No. 50 Elizabeth Plotkin will begin her singles matches against Brett Ellen Keeler from Princeton.
The No. 2 seed in the C singles bracket, No. 24 Ellah Nze will take on Abby Guthrie from Ole Miss while the two incoming freshmen from Duke will make their Blue Devil debuts on Friday with Rachel Kahan to face off against Jenny Hois from Wisconsin and Hanna Mar set to take on No. 84 Jelena Durisic from UNC.
Blue Devils doubles action will start at 10 a.m., on Friday with the duo of Gorny and Mar to set to take on Purdue pair Anna Dushkina and Bhavani Tirumurti. Kahan and Zsilinszka will battle Breanne Smutko and Chelcie Abajian of Illinois and Plotkin and Fahoum will match up against Purdue duo Mara Schmidt and Jennifer Rabot. The final match for Duke in doubles will be Clayton and Nze taking on Alaina Trogovich and Hannah Berner from Wisconsin.
