DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's tennis players Monica Gorny and Hanna Mar are traveling out west to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the San Diego State University Fall Classic on Oct. 1-3. The tournament, which concludes on Sunday, will be held at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The doubles action starts each day at 12 p.m. (EST) and features eight teams in the Red Bracket and four teams in the Black Bracket. Singles action will immediately follow the completion of doubles, with three brackets consisting of eight draws each.
The Blue Devils will join four other universities: Cal State Northridge, Loyola Marymount, San Diego University and host team San Diego State. SDSU features two ranked players in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. Senior Julia Trunk is No. 51, and sophomore teammate Alicia Aguilar comes in at No. 65.
Gorny and Mar begin doubles action facing CSUN duo Ana Yang and Nina Jaworowski. In singles action, Mar will face off against Cara Brown of USD while teammate Gorny takes on Sabrina Man-Son-Hing from CSUN.
The Duke women will also compete in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Oct. 4-10, in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Riviera Tennis Club will host the tournament for the 26th consecutive year.
