Blue Devils Resume Action at Temple on Friday...
The eighth-ranked Duke women's basketball team (8-2) will resume action on Friday, Dec. 30 at Temple, following a nine-day break without games for the Christmas holiday. The contest will be played at 7:00 p.m., in McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia, Pa.

Following the Temple contest, the Blue Devils will open Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action on Monday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 p.m., against Virginia. The Cavaliers are coached by 1985 Duke graduate and former assistant coach Joanne Boyle.
Noting Duke...
Duke will travel to the city of Philadelphia for the third straight year - two times to play Temple and last year in the NCAA Regional ... the Blue Devils have played only two games over the last 19 days as they get ready to take on Temple ... starting with the Temple contest, Duke will play four games in 10 days ... Duke has won 14 consecutive games at home against non-conference teams ... nine different Blue Devils have registered double-figure scoring so far on the season ... Duke is the reigning back-to-back ACC Champion and has won a total of seven ACC Championships.
A Look At Temple...
The Owls are 5-6 heading into Friday's matchup following a 47-56 loss to Villanova on Dec. 22. Temple is 4-1 this season in home contests after notching victories over Miami (OH), Auburn, Kent State and UCLA Under the direction of head coach Tonya Cardoza, who is in her fourth season with the program, the Panthers return three starters and eight letterwinners for the 2011-12 campaign.
Shey Peddy (15.2 points, 5.2 rebounds) and Kristen McCarthy (11.5 points, 6.6 rebounds) are averaging double figures through the Owls' first 11 games of the season.
The Series With Temple...
Duke and Temple will face off for the seventh time in program history with the Blue Devils undefeated in the series at 6-0. In the teams' meeting last season, Duke posted a 71-64 victory in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 30, 2010. Friday's contest will mark just the second time the two teams will square off on the Owls' home court. Duke and Temple will compete against each other for the fourth straight year.
Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie is 5-0 all-time in her career against Temple and 4-0 since joining the Blue Devil program.
Duke Versus the Atlantic 10...
Duke owns an all-time record of 28-9 against teams from the Atlantic 10 -- Charlotte (7-3), Dayton (0-1), Duquesne (1-0), George Washington (1-1), La Salle (0-1), Rhode Island (1-0), Richmond (6-1), St. Joseph's (4-1), Temple (6-0) and Xavier (2-1).
Coach P is 19-5 all-time against Atlantic 10 Conference members.
Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes...
• Following the holiday break, Duke is 9-0 in the past nine years. The last loss came in 2001-02 to second-ranked Tennessee (89-68) in the ACC/SEC Challenge in Atlanta, Ga. The Blue Devils have won 18 out of the last 19 following the break for Christmas.
• Freshman Elizabeth Williams has 138 points over her first 10 collegiate games, which ranks tied for fifth-most over a rookie's first 10 contests in Duke history -- Chris Moreland (174), Katie Meier (156), Alana Beard (155), Tara McCarthy (142), Elizabeth Williams (138), Monique Currie (138), Jenni Kraft (138), Stacy Hurd (127), Wanisha Smith (124), Abby Waner (116).
• Freshman Elizabeth Williams has 87 rebounds over her first 10 collegiate games, which ranks as the second-most over a rookie's first 10 contests in Duke history -- Chris Moreland (96), Elizabeth Williams (87), Stacy Hurd (82), Chante Black (77), Payton Black (63), Allison Vernerey (61), Sue Harnett (58), Monique Currie (54).
• Duke's 200 points over the last two games is the most in back-to-back games under head coach Joanne P. McCallie. It is the third-highest total in Coach P's 20-year coaching history. Her Maine team scored 211 points against New Hampshire and Towson in 1997, while her same Black Bear team registered 209 points in the America East Tournament that same season against Towson and Drexel.
• The Blue Devils' 59.7 percent shooting from the field against USC Upstate was the highest for the Duke team since Coach P took over the program in 2007-08.
• Sophomore Tricia Liston has notched a team-best four contests with 18 or more points - 23 vs. Gardner-Webb, 22 vs. Western Kentucky, 19 against Pittsburgh and 18 versus UNCW.
• Freshman Elizabeth Williams owns 31 blocked shots in only 10 contests. She is already seventh on the Duke freshman single-season blocks list and needs two more to tie Brittany Hunter (33).
• Duke currently boasts four Blue Devils averaging double-figure scoring -- Williams (13.8), Gray (10.5), Wells (10.4) and Tricia Liston (10.7).
• Both Chelsea Gray (13) and Chloe Wells (9) each have dished eight or more assists in a game this season. It marks the first time since the 2005-06 campaign that two or more Duke players have dished eight or more assists in a game -- Lindsey Harding (8), Monique Currie (11), Abby Waner (10) and Wanisha Smith (11).
• Heading into the season, Duke's eight returning letterwinners own 83 career starts, while 2011 graduates Jasmine Thomas, Krystal Thomas and Karima Christmas totaled 237 starts over the last four years.
• The Blue Devils feature nine freshmen and sophomores on the roster in 2011-12, which is the most since Duke had 10 on the roster in 2000-01.
• The average age of Duke's squad this season is 19 years old. This is the youngest since the 2000-01 squad that had an average age of 18.2.
• Over the last 12 years, Duke owns the third-most wins in the nation -- Connecticut (389), Tennessee (351) and Duke (342) through games of 12/28.
• Duke lost 45.8 percent of its scoring from a year ago with the graduation of Jasmine Thomas, Krystal Thomas and Karima Christmas. All three were selected in the 2011 WNBA Draft.

Vernerey Posts Big Number...
In the last game against UNCW, junior Allison Vernerey was a big boost off the bench scoring a career-high 22 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in only 19 minutes of action.
In the contest, she hit 10-of-11 field goals, including her first eight attempts. It marked the first time this season Vernerey has notched double-figure scoring.
Impressive Last Two Games...
Over the last two games, Duke has averaged 100 points a game, while hitting 58.2 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from downtown. The Blue Devils have averaged 25.5 steals and forced 36.5 turnovers.
In those contests, the Blue Devils have featured six double-digit scorers -- Williams (19.0), Vernerey (14.5), Liston (12.5), Peters (12.0), Wells (11.0) and Gray (10.0).
Duke's defense has held opponents to 40.0 points, 30.4 percent shooting and to 73 turnovers.
On the Road...
The Blue Devils will hit the road for their fourth true away contest, while posting a 2-1 mark in those contests.
In those games, Tricia Liston (11.0), Chelsea Gray (11.0) and Elizabeth Williams (10.7) have averaged 10+ points.
Duke is averaging 68.7 points and hitting 46.2 percent from the field.
Selby Reinstated...
After being suspended for five contests, Duke senior Shay Selby has been reinstated following the Christmas break.
She had been suspended for a violation of team rules. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Selby started each of the first five games to open the season and is one of only two seniors on the Blue Devil squad.
Youngest Starting Five...
The Blue Devils boast the youngest starting five of any teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 with four sophomores and one freshman.
Other teams with young lineups are Maryland (3 So., 1 Jr., 1 R-Sr.), Louisville (2 Fr., 2 So., 1 Sr.), Vanderbilt (3 So., 1 Fr., 1 Jr.) and Oklahoma (3 So., 2 Jr.).
Williams Posts Stellar Shooting...
In a three-game stretch against Kentucky, USC Upstate and UNC Wilmington, freshman Elizabeth Williams hit 12 straight field goals. She hit all 10 of her field goal attempts against USC Upstate, which is the second-best field goal percentage in school history. The record is 12-of-12 by Sheana Mosch on Jan. 28, 2001 versus Clemson.
The school record for most consecutive field goals made is 17 by Mosch in the same season.
Over the last three contests, Williams has hit 25-of-37 field goals for a 67.6 percentage.
